Have to laugh when Rags etc (not you ofc) bring up the Hart/Bravo and Nolito transfers as evidence that we fritter away unlimited cash from our bottomless pit of dirty oil money.
When Pep came in and decided Hart wasn't for him he tried to get ter Stegen (IIRC) but no sale and we took Bravo instead until Ederson came the following summer and Bravo was relegated. It was all good in the end.
If this is the worst they can throw at us we've not done too bad.

Yeah, it's dumb to suggest we get it wrong and just splash cash. It's also a little naive (not you) to suggest we're perfect. It's more, this is a forum...and the "pep knows best" response doesn't exactly fit with the idea of discussion!

So 2 years ago, in one game, he ran the show. I can't argue with that intense scouting. ;)

I don't think that's true. He's had some good performances for Chelsea that people have commented on. Rodri's first season, were claiming we should have broken the bank for Kovacic (not saying they were right). I remember a few that watched both world cups saying he would have been great in our team.

It is a strange metric to go by, mind you.

Well yes, I'n not sure Pep bases it off one game two years ago though, but if others see it occasionally that carries as much weight as your opinion. Pep and Txiki though not so much.

You don't play for Inter, Real & Chelsea (ok maybe not Chelsea) and get capped almost 100 times by Croatia without being at least a semi-useful midfielder. Would be a good addition to the squad if we can get him for a decent fee.
 
We've just won the CL, The PL and the FAC and people are still questioning our player recruitment policy; it beggars belief.

Txiki, Pep and the rest of the people responsible for scouting and recruiting have done an absolutely STELLAR job of building a solid team capable of competing at the HIGHEST levels of football. They haven't got it right every time, but no team ever does.

If they think Kovacic if a good fit, then I'll trust their judgement.

I can only go on the games I watch, which is City all of the time, chelsea when they play us and a few other games, and in those games he has always stood out as one of Chelsea’s better players. However my judgement is irrelevant, if Pep likes him that works well for me

This season, but in 2021 they won the CL :). He has been excellent for Croatia this season, for example.

We have been interested in Kovacic since 2013, he is one of those players with a very high ceiling ability-wise, and you just know that the guy needs someone like Pep to help him fulfill his potential.

For anyone interested, it's Netherlands vs Croatia tonight, a chance to see him in action.

True story.
I was in a Taverna in Crete next to our rented Villa. At the very start of the holiday I asked the Owner his name.He said “Georgie, like Georgie Best”.
I replied “ not heard of him , do you mean like Georgie Samaras?”
He was delighted with my reply and gave me a free pint :-) as he was also from Heraklion.
