In response to
@Damocles tweet about being abused in a pub, which someone posted on here, I've tagged the Football Writers Association in a reply.
Well done. I hope it elicits, at least, some form of response from those who oversee our venal, partial UK sports media (but I won't hold my breath..)
Here's another example, from the back end of last season. I travel to games by train nowadays and often meet up with a local friend and his grown up son who are season ticket holders too. On the way to a match last Spring and wearing their City shirts and scarves, as they approached our station a passing car had its window wound down and the insults 'F**king Blue cheats' and 'F**king Oil Money cheats' were shouted at them.
Both my friend and his son stopped to have a look. This was the signal for the car to stop (on double yellow lines and with other traffic about) with the driver getting out to harangue and even threaten them further.
At this point, my 6ft 4ins pal took out his Police warrant card to tell the herbert concerned to move on, while his even bigger son suggested the same only in slightly more colourful terms. Whether it was the sight of warrant card or the realisation that here were two hefty, handy lads I cannot say but said herbert beat a hasty retreat and continued on to do his shopping or whatever.
The point being as you/Damocles say, this sort of thing is becoming more and more commonplace and its root is, most definitely, to be found in the toxic lies, half-truths and misleading statements made by such as Delaney, Roan, Syed, Harris and so on and so on for decades now, together with the organisations which employ them to spout their ill-informed bile. Who knows what dreadful incident might befall some innocent person as a result of this kind of behaviour being fomented by the media?
They ought to be ashamed of themselves..
