Raz needs an early goal in this tournament, he will flourish if he gets one.
The point is, though you’ll never admit it because your hatred for him has made you blinkered to fuck, Sterling knows he has to produce, nobody minds him being told he has to but why isn’t the same said for Alli, Lingard, Dier or Kane? Kane was abysmal at the Euros, he’s undoubtedly under more pressure than anyone, or should be, but fuck all is said about the golden boy, and the same with the others I mentioned. Sterling is set up constantly as the fall guy when he’s nowhere near performing badly.
Sterling has to perform, it’s as simple as that. He will have two games against poor opposition where he should flourish. He’s had an amazing season and a point to prove to the bell ends in the media. It’s all on him and I genuinely hope he does.
You keep saying words to this effect. Does Cahill "have" to perform as he has won an FA cup. Does Alexander-Arnold and Henderson "have" to perform having reached a CL final.
Why is that you focus on Sterling its exactly what the media are doing!!! Its a team game so its upon all the England players to perform if he doesnt get the service then is that his fault or down to the non performance of others?
I also think you might be surprised by the quality of the "poor" opposition as we saw yesterday with Argentina. These are not Sunday league sides that England are playing they will be well organised and well drilled
This thread is to discuss the unfair treatment he is receiving from the press,of which there can be no argument otherwise. It isn’t about what they’ve won it’s about how they’ve played. Sterling has had his best ever season on a personal level which then coincided with two trophies. He has been England’s best performing Englishman which then leads to pressure on his performance. Rooney had it loads when he was our hopes of success. You all can’t back track now after seemingly he can do no wrong yet remove any pressure from him what so ever to actually play well for England? Like I’ve just said this is the Sterling thread and yes he has to perform, unfairly but maybe more than others to try and shake this weird frenzy about him in the media. It isn’t a thread to discuss other plays who have to perform however all of englands best players, which Sterling is need to produce.
Excuses lined up already if he plays duff against Tunisia and Panama? Christ.

Nobody is offering any excuses. But you and the English media have got Sterlings well and truly in your sights and if he doesnt score or create any assists no matter how good his all round play is he will be used as a scapegoat. He set up the chance for Kane against Nigeria yet Sky Sports ran a stat comparison with Rashford over the 2 friendly games and did not include the assist as it didnt help with their agenda
I bet we will have Hoddle and Shearer et al saying "for me he has to do more" "he has to perform" "he does it for City he has to do it for England" "he has no end product". Unfortunately Raz is not playing with Aguero or Jesus or Sane or Silva or Silva or KDB but the fault will all be Sterlings not Kane's, not Alli's, not Lingard's, not Henderson's or Dier's and none of those players have the added pressure of "having to perform"
As for playing against shit teams ask Argentina how good are Iceland
The issue is that England will not be a success if they rely on one individual ala Rooney or Beckham the issue is that Sterling has not been put on a pedestal to be knocked off rather he has a had a target pinned to his back and people are waiting for an excuse to shoot

That is completely contradictory to everyone who defends him and is why I get so frustrated on here. If I ever say he plays badly the response is, did he score? Look at his numbers and no one can have an actual conversation about his gameplay. Bournemouth away being an example he was fucking dreadful but scores a last minute important winner. No one will say how shite he was that day, numbers cloud every judgement.
His numbers for England are shocking in comparison to his club but then gameplay is brought into it because stats can’t back people up. Can’t have it both ways. If numbers is his defence for city then that’s what you compare to for England.
Who says these other players don’t have to perform? This forum has bigged Sterling up al season, how he’s better than every other Englishmen but now it comes to a point to prove it and you want someone like Lingard having the same pressure? Isn’t fair is it to say Sterling is miles better than most of the squad but you want everyone else to peform to the same level. There’s pressure created by his own fantastic season. Nothing more. Every player needs to produce in their own way not just Sterling.
