Why the ruthlessly brilliant, widely unpopular Man City deserve our respect
Pep Guardiola has created a team that defends in swarms, manipulates space and restricts their opponents options – yet the side’s success is often derided.www.newstatesman.com

In my day, we had to content ourselves with Muffin the Mule.. until it was made an illegal offence, of course.. (!!)
Shame. You missed the bit that said our success was due to "weak regulation, a lack of oversight, the moral desertion that allows repressive states to own cherished community assets".Financial might provided by the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund? Stopped reading at that point.
Pissed me right off reading that article so I found this https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...itys-restored-aura-makes-patsies-of-opponentsGood decision.
"City’s financial dominance, buttressed not by an absent billionaire but by an entire state, "
"City know that they’ll never be as big as United or as loved as Liverpool or as cool as Paris Saint-Germain."
"at some point the City era will come to an end. And yet the forces that helped them to flourish in the first place – weak regulation, a lack of oversight, the moral desertion that allows repressive states to own cherished community assets – will not."
Edit: Written by Jonathan Liew, the Spurs fan BTW.
The forces that helped us flourish were what the cartel put in place in order to try and guarantee themselves perpetual success. This always gets overlooked when these nonces bemoan our present standing in the game - and try and evaluate how it came to pass.Good decision.
