I put myself in Roma's place ad surely wouldnt accept any kind of fee until end of July. Trying to raise the price even up to 35-40m pounds if possible. If it doesnt work he still can move for 25-30m in August. Worst case scenario he doesnt move at all and they have a little unhappy defender that will just get on with it and they need him as they are back in CL and probably a tough group as they are in pot 4 at the draw maybe...

Clubs have their ways with journos can imagine easily Benatia has no club preference but Roma wanted this Chelsea info in the news to try to get Chelsea involved in a transfer war that can only increase the price of selling Benatia...

If the final price is 35m pounds for Roma its totally doesnt matter it comes from Chelsea, City, Bayern etc. Also they can point to David Luiz ad say look he just went for 45m pounds to PSG, that the running price for a top CB now...

Main thing here is Benatia who probably wants to move as his wages nowhere near what it would be at City or Chelsea. He is in a position that he can triple his wages and join a club that can win the title or go far in CL.

With Roma no disrespect to them they are behind Juventus for a reason and probably getting out of a tough group will be their best in CL.

My other idea would be Hummels but he is far from wanting to leave, he seems more than happy at Dortmund, of course no way Guardiola will let Dortmund win the league, and also doubt Hummels couldnt double his wages at an English top club yet he seems happy to stay, pretty loyal...

Well I doubt they're getting £35 million from us, he's worth around the £20 million mark. All this £35 million talk is pure crap.

Agree he's not worth £35m but this could be €35m which is a bit over £27m - that said I'd be amazed if we could do a "reasonable" deal with Roma.

If it's Chelsea then it's £35m. The Luiz money will be burning a hole in Jose's transfer budget.

With David Luiz going for £50m we will be lucky to get any top rated defender for less than £30m, PSG have just inflated the market for central defenders big time this summer and it's something we are going to have to deal with and bite the bullet on.

Media-crap... I think he is closer to us. He has not mentioned Chelsea, ever. No moves from Chelsea and so on...
