Message from a Sunderland fan

Watching City the other night is like watching a different sport to my lot at Sunderland. I hope the long term Maine Road lot are lapping it up.
We are living the dream and unlike that lot in Stretford do not think it is our divine right to win trophies. We are truly blessed with our owners who have helped to regenerate a scruffy area of our great City as well as giving us really entertaining football.

Sunderland and its fans will always have a soft spot in my heart, I will never forget the response of your supporters when that Aguero goal was scored in May 2012, that was a magical moment.

I remember going to stadium of light for the first ever game. Was a Friday night and had a wedding the next day. Think the game kicked off late because of traffic outside. Must have been around 1997. Lost 3-1 with a Kinkladze penalty. Kernaghan got sent off

I was at that one and I remember thinking it was the loudest stadium I’d ever heard.

Absolutely shocking last night we were. Nee light at the end of this tunnel. Suppose it saves us being embarrassed at Wembley again

Vindictive bastard isn't he?
That's nothing. When Preston sacked his son in 2010 after a 26% win record and whilst at the bottom of the table, he immediately recalled 3 on loan players back to United and got Tony Pulis to recall 2 to Stoke. Losing 5 first team players meant there was no chance of a recovery and Preston were relegated.

To be honest I am finding it a bit strange. It feels like watching some sort of movie. Watching us move up in quality since we clambered out of the third division has been incredible. The gap from the Championship to the PL was huge, then we made a huge leap forward into the top six. It was so tough to get in the top four and then win something. Then struggled to get out of CL groups and this season we have won10 out of 11 CL games, a record for the competition.
But the biggest change of all has been under Pep's Total Football. I never thought I would ever see a City side (or any English one TBH) play at such a high technical level. It has become as the ironic song says: "Just like watching Brazil."
Completely agree with this.

I’ll never forget going up to Roker Park for 1973 cup replay. Me and my dad sat with the Sunderland fans, and they were great with us. The atmosphere was unbelievable if I remember rightly we bought Horswill and Tueart shortly after.

And Dave Watson

the thing i remember most about that game at roker was the amount of police giving us an escort out of sunderland. of course all the mackems were celebrating in the pub. waste of police time and money.

I went to the home game. Then the return at Roker park.
My old man was a Sunderland supporter, and at the time so was I, (I was 6 at the time) but after that trip down from Langley Park Co Durham to Maine Rd, I became obsessed with City. Even though Sunderland went on to beat Leeds in that year’s final!

Sunderland will be back as a top tier side ,football is cylical and you have to experience the lows to appreciate the highs our fans know how fortunate we have been with our owners , and never take it for granted ,leave that to the 'istree clubs.

I thought Dave Watson came a while after Horswill and Tueart, but yeh what a player for us.
Yes, Watson was later. Meant we signed all 3 after they’d played against us in that ‘73. Cup game. Think Tueart and Horswill came pretty much after they’d won the cup that year and Watson a season later.
