Metrolink to / from Etihad

It is very damaging to the city's reputation beccause people travel for all over the UK to gigs at the arena. The venue is fantastic but the infrastructure is a joke.
I just went on Tripadvisor to see if there was a consistent theme about tram problems from the viewpoint of concert goers. There’s a few mention it being bad but the venue itself doesn’t seem that popular. Parking, queues to get in with few toilet facilities, cost of drinks and legroom all common complaints.

I also just read that the tram frequency across the network is being REDUCED from the end of March to every 15 mins (from every 12 mins) until the autumn as they don’t have enough drivers.

What a farce.

The Ashton ones are usually around this sort of frequency anyway so in reality they will probably become more like every 25/30 mins.

I'm in Runcorn, my parents are in Northwich and we have the same issues with alternatives to driving. Set off at 5 past 5 for the Forest match and traffic was already terrible and on the way home the M56 was shut with everyone diverted around towards the airport and straight back on to the 56 after the junction. It's definitely feeling more of a choir to get to night matches these days.

The buses that City are putting on don't extend out our way either, I think the closest would be Altrincham or Hale but I'm not sure they'd help much due to night match traffic. I had a look at getting the train for the Forest match, getting there was ok but getting back is the issue. 30 mins to from full time (less any added time) to get to Piccadilly otherwise it's an hour or more wait until the next.

The tram to ashton is packed after the game, my take on it is that the matro is waiting for the sheikh to pay for a bigger transformer so more trams can do the runs into town and ashton. Then and only then it be a better for city fans and concert goers

I've been using the bus towards Ashton but even that has been rammed at recent games and you have to fight those stood near the door to get off.

I used the tram again Vs Forest and thought fuck that when I saw the queue 5 or 6 deep at the platform. I waited until after the 1st tram to arrive fucked off and within a minute another tram arrived empty. So they can put more trams on if they want to. More got on at Clayton Hall and the tram was quite full but not rammed.

Glad I waited but it's unusual for another tram to arrive so quickly. Normally another 20 mins minimum.

It's unsurprising that many fans fuck off early.

I go the other way so have no experience of the Ashton after match service. Sounds nearly as bad as the other direction. You're right though, more trams can be laid on but they choose not to. It's a really poor show from metrolink, and I'd love it if the club could lobby them on our behalf. We're just not being listened to as fans, but nothing new there in reality.

Buried within this was that the Altrincham - Etihad direct service will now run all day every day.
I'm sure @Gray will be delighted!

Can't you drive to Altrincham and catch the match bus or the tram?

The Ashton service after the game was always a fucking nightmare..long waits for the tram with little information..empty trams going past so they could turn round and take the fans into Manchester and when you get on it's fucking chaos.
Crammed into them like sardines and basically a free for all just getting on.
Thank fuck for the matchday buses..great service friendly drivers and reliable.

Wonderful isn't it from the 30th March until the Autumn (whenever that is).

So home matches in April, May and August will be covered but back to the usual shit show during the other months.

Thank goodness we don’t have a match.
I thnk you're slipping!

Possible FA Cup Home game that weekend if we get past the barcodes.
Even slimmer possible rearranged game against Crystal Palace if we're not.

Last few games the trams have been so unreliable I can totally understand why people can’t be arsed going to midweek games. There’s been a lack of trams, breakdowns, unexplained stoppages or delays. I’ve been late twice and against Forest I got there just in time for kick off with hundreds of others stranded in town. They just don’t provide anything close to an acceptable service and the infrastructure cannot and will not cope with the additional demands of an extended stadium, co-op live events and whatever else is going on.

I am definitely slipping as two of the four home league matches are on a Sunday when the trams run to the Etihad anyway. I don't do Champions League so only Crystal Palace (?), Brentford and a possible 6th round FA Cup tie could work for me.

I also dread to think how Metrolink will cope when we also get this new ABBA venue opened.

Copenhagen metro, driverless and every 2 mins in busy rush hours, every 4 mins daytime and every 15 mins through the night. Puts us to shame

We could build more music venues on the campus to test that theory out, the solution is for everyone to walk so I am informed.
