its obviously a political move due to the amount of pressure the scousers have put on the government to get him free. i cant make a judgement on the situation as only a handful of people know for sure what happened that night. if you beleive a lot of people then you will think shields is a nice guy who couldnt hurt a fly but some say that his family are notorious dangerous and have influenced the guy to take the blam. who knows. all i know is he was found guilty but obviously if there is enough evidence to let him off then good luck to the guy and i hope he rebuilds his life.

He sounds a guilty as a puppy next to a pile of poo from the facts in that article.
But surely Jack Straw doesn't go about pardoning people every other day? There must strong enough evidence for him to believe he is innocent,

Interesting stuff from a Liverpool fan on another forum re Shields' arrest and Graham Sankey. If true then my attitude towards Shields could well soften:
I will try to clear this up
3 Am Michael Shields arrives back at his Hotel and is let in by the Hotel Porter
5 Am Martin Georgiev is Attacked by a large DARK haired man
8 Am The police arrive at the Kristal Hotel and arrest 3 men
11 Am On being told the Attacker was a "big Fella with dark hair" the Police return to the Hotel search the Hotel and awake and Arrest Michael Shields. The only Big fella left in the Hotel the fact that he clearly had blond hair didn't seem to matter.
Michael Shields was then driven to the scene were he was left in full view of Witnesses. He was then taken to the Police station and chained to a radiator and the witnesses were then taken past him.
Graham Sankey who was also arrested was not taken to the scene of the crime and was placed in a cell away from witnesses.
Shields is then placed on an ID Parade with no defence lawyer present. The ID Parade consists of Michael who is made to wear a white T shirt and much older Bulgarians wearing Jumpers. This is despite the fact that it is beyond doubt that Michael Shields was not wearing a white T shirt that night.
Despite all the witnessess and the police saying the Attacker was dark haired Michael Shields was Identified by every single witness. Not surprising really considering the make up of the ID parade and the fact that Michael's face was literally on every news bulletin and Michael had been seen in the police car outside the crime scene and chained to a radiator.
Graham Sankey was released and even on the plane home confessed he had committed the crime and couldn't believe he had been released.
Michael Shields was asked to take a Polygraph by the home secretary, he passed this with flying colours and the person who conducted the test a world renowned expert said that he had never been as certain of someone's innocence in his life and would willingly stake his reputation on the results.
Despite the Police recovering the clothes Michael wore on the night there was not a single shred of forensic evidence linking Michael to the crime.
It is without doubt a Gross miscarriage of Justice.

the hair colour is disputed by all....it was not a dark haired fella they were looking for....I think the scousers made that bit up.
The polygraph is also inconclusive.......which is why it is inadmissible and always has been in a British court room......the so called expert can stake whatever he wants on it as who is to say otherwise.

Well by that reasoning the Birmingham six and Guildford four must have all been guilty aswell since they potrayed emotions associated with Joy upon their release. I would imagine Sheilds is a very happy man right now, hence his smiles and laughs.

My take on it, hes guilty as hell, he has been proven to be guilty and should serve his time. His smirking and laughing sums it all up for me.....scouse **** of the highest order.
If the scousers want justice why have they not sent sankey packing to bulgaria to face the music, why no justice for the lad who nearly died at the hands of a scouser...AGAIN!!!
