Indeed.Another one who has the somewhat facile or dubious notion that because someone Jewish has an opinion on the current situation (particularly one that aligns with their own view) that every Jew who doesn't agree with them is somehow wrong or deluded. It's so fucking infuriating. Some fuckwit on here actually mocked me for not knowing David Hearst, Editor of Middle East Eye, was Jewish, as though we all know each other and have a secret handshake or something.
Jews, just like Christians, Muslims, Hindus and other people, have a wide variety of opinions. In the Jewish world, these range from rejecting Zionism and the notion of an Israeli state (like Neturei Karta) to ardent Zionists. From those on the left who wholly support the Palestinian cause to those on the right who would happily expel or even kill Palestinians en masse.
I could post endless videos of Christians who firmly believe abortion shouldn't be allowed or that homosexuals are sinful and will burn in hell. Not my views but there are lots who hold the same views or sympathise with them. And there are lots of practicing Christians who have a differing view.
There's an article by Gideon Rachman (who I believe is Jewish) in the FT saying that it's quite possible to support Israel in its action against Hamas yet also support Palestinian aspirations. His argument is that countries talking to Israel who show some understanding and support are far more likely to have some influence, over countries who just tell them they're a bunch of bastards.
There was a football match in Iran last week. The Iranian authorities put Palestine flags on the seats in the stadium and the Iranian football fans sang songs in opposition to that being done, against Hamas and against their govt. Yet we have British people well up for going on marches after the Hamas terrorist attack last week and in opposition to Israel’s response to them, including some Jews.
People have different opinions on things. Some from their own side against their supposed side.
That David Hearst thing made me laugh out loud!
