James Milner won't win us the league. Don't know why we are going for him.

Did anyone actually realise he was on the pitch three weeks ago?
Nope, got bossed by the pedestrian.

I like Milner, he's a quality player but I seem to remember Mark Hughes saying last year that Villa accepted our first bid for Barry and Hughes was crowing that we would have gone a lot higher. MoN and the Villa board won't have forgot that in a hurry and I expect them to squeeze us for every penny.

I just hope this doesn't turn into a Lescot type scenario were we pay way over the odds and the fans start comparing him to his over inflated fee.

Lescot is a top quality player yet he gets loads of stick off blues purely because of his huge transfer fee, unfairly imo.

I think you're right to an extent, but I really think it's part of a long term strategy to make sure when it comes to the best English players, we always head the queue. Milner's probably the best English player outside the traditional top 4, and would without question have been headed for Chelsea or the rags if we weren't in the equation.

Also, I don't think this will get dragged out the way the Lescott thing did. Whatever's going to happen I imagine will be done and dusted by the weekend.

I don't think the OS lets me go back to old Match Centres but after the game, and he completed I believe 85% of his passes against us. He also almost scored on that tricky free kick on the edge of the box. So yes, he was on the pitch.

Re: city make milner bid (SSN)

We could have bought this fella for 2.5 million if Pearce/Board wanted it.

Re: city make milner bid (SSN)

The reason we are going for milner as opposed to gourcuff is because we have to have a certain amount of English players in our squad next season... New premier league rules! I think it is 8 players in our 25 man squad? Something like that anyway. Anyone know anymore on that?!

Would much rather see a Gourcuff or Hamsik come in.

If this is the attacking midfielder we are going for then i think all Gerrard and Kaka talk has been well and truely knocked back, or if our itk's can be trusted, they have knocked us back, perhaps.

Either way, your probably talking £30m for a one-season wonder so far, he's done no more than Ireland did the season before.

A one-season wonder ?! Milner has been class for years.
Age, fitness and potential wise he'd be a much better bet than Gerrard, and would probably be cheaper, wahtever we end up paying for him.

Re: city make milner bid (SSN)

Is Milner better than Ireland ? they both won the young player award when they played regularly

I would rather spend 30 million on Ashley Young
