100% agree, even if we spent £30m on him it would be a good deal in my view, compare to the £18m we paid for RSC !!!

I don't understand this... he had 1 really good season. I am not disputing the fact that he is a very good player... but 20m or even 30m?

You could say the same thing about Stephen Ireland.

NO! You can't compare him to Stevie, not in the slightest!! So you think that every player who has a good season will will have a shocker the next? or do you think maybe if some of them are taken to top clubs that they might just progress into a consistent top player. . . .I do!!

We all love(ed) Stevie Ireland, but he's obviously had a lot of personal problems in his short career, I hope he'll get back to how he was, but i can't see it, unless he's given a long run in the team which we can't afford to give him (loan??). If Real Madrid would have come in for Stevie after last season, how much would we have asked for? i reckon £30 - 35mil, for one of the best players in the prem, and he was only 22. We just have to hope that Milner has a great season and helps to push city on.

If Ireland can get his form back, then it doesn't matter who we sign, he will get in to the team. Can he get his form back is the question!?

Re: city make milner bid (SSN)

Morning all..

Villa fan, I come in peace. Hope you don't mind a Villa perspective on this?

First of all, please please please just go away. That's my first instinctive reaction to this.

Milner is the player that we should be building the Villa side around for the next 5 years. Martin O'Neill is a canny operator, he knew he wanted Milner as soon as he became Villa manager. Initially Newcastle pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute. Eventually MON got his man. I'm sure that MON's plan the whole time was to mould Milner into a central midfielder.

Milner started on the right wing for us and gave us great balance. His solidity and work rate was perfect on that side, while Ashley Young was his usual tricky pacey self on the left. This year MON moved him into the centre and, immediately, you could see Milner was perfect for the role.

For those of you who say Milner has only had one good season, you are in part right. But, let me put it this way. I think Milner has only had one excellent season. All his previous seasons were good, solid, unspectacular. This season he has been the heartbeat of our side.

Bought for £12m, I think £20m now greatly undervalues him.

Don't pay £20m for the Milner of last season or of previous seasons. Think of it as for the player that Milner is about to become because I truly believe that he is about to become an incredible player.

He has developed his ability to see a pass significantly. His work rate is an example to all around him, he has boundless energy. He is the consummate professional. He doesn't drink, he says he has plenty of time for drinking when he retires. He shuns the Hollywood lifestyle that follows footballers these days. Milner will never be on the front pages unless he scores the winner in the World Cup Final this year.

So, to sum up... Please please please just go away. We can't afford to lose James Milner. We definitely can't afford to lose him to you, competing as we are for the same 4th spot next year (although I'm sure you will have loftier ambitions than that).

If you won't go away, I expect Martin O'Neill and Randy Lerner to make this deal as lucrative for us as possible. In MON I trust, especially after the way he handled the Gareth Barry Liverpool saga. I just hope he can make us a better team again if we lose Milner, I'm just not sure those shoes are as easily filled.

Yes he is. Ireland is gash hence why he cant get a game.

I think mancini knows what hes doing and ireland cant get a game but hes gunna pay 20+ for Milner just proves hes better.

Ireland has 3/4 of a good season and everyone wants to suck him off

No he is not. Neener neener neener!

Milner also only had 1 good season so far, so why should he be worth that much more? Smacks of "grass is greener on the other side" .

For 20m I would rather see us get a player like Hamsik or Gourcuff.

All this 1 good season shit for Milner is doing my head in. Okay he had an exceptional season last year adding scoring to his other talents. If anybody actually looked he actually contributes 8/9 assists a year as well.

Ireland has played 138 games in last 5 years with just 16 assists.
Milner has played 168 games in last 5 years (including 2 for Newcastle) with 41 (forty one) assists.

Plus if you look at England`s midfield Barry, Lampard, Gerrard they`re all getting on a bit. This man will be England`s main man for years to come, hopefully City`s aswell.

Re: city make milner bid (SSN)

Milner would be an immense buy, he hasn't even hit his peak yet, what is he 23 years old. He has been around the block already and gets better every year.

Re: city make milner bid (SSN)

He isn't worth anymore than £20m. Even if we use the Lescott scale.

He would be if he built on last season. If we're paying that much for a midfielder i want him to be able to control a game.

If we go to any top 7 side with a midfield of Barry - De Jong - Milner, we will struggle, as neither have the ability to 'run' a game. All 3 would compliment a top quality midfielder, but if we don't manage to get one we're going to struggle to qualify for the CL.

I can't believe £20m isn't enough for a player who is just solid, consistent and versatile. I can't believe people think £30m would still be good value. The world has gone mad.

Re: city make milner bid (SSN)

It's sad to think that for another £10m (that's if he comes for £25m) we could have gotten David Villa.

I guess our time will come where we can get a decent transfer fee, for now its paying the premium.

The other thing is, i know its alot of money but we shouldnt really care about how much is spent. We have bucketloads of money and its never going to go onto the clubs books during this 'transitional' phaze. The only thing we might get is banter from other fans about our £££m squad, there just jelous twats.

It's normal in football to reject the first bid, Milner should be on his way very shortly.

Re: city make milner bid (SSN)

The thing I dont understand with Ireland is, why have most City fans written him off saying hes only had 1 good season?

Yet the same people laud Michael Johnson as the best player we have based on his 1 season he did well?

Are you perhaps confusing Manic Michael with Amazing Adam?

Milner is the best young English player in the Premiership.

The guy is outstanding.

He's not much younger than Rooney?
