Monaco - Post Match thread.

When we start defending, tackling, and stopping crosses coming in from the edge of the box, then we'll win things. Time and again last night, and throughout this season, our defenders keep on dropping back into the penalty box before a tackle or block is attempted. Is it the way we coach our back 4, if you can call it that? How many crosses did Monaco fire in during the first hallf before a block or challenge was attempted, if at all. This type of un-physical and dropping back defending is costing us dear.

A tale of two halves, abject failure in the first and missed opportunities in the second, with the defensive unit we have, we wont win anything, my thoughts go out to all the Blues who made the journey out there and will have to limp back today with heavy hearts after being let down so badly...!

Oh I agree. It's still two windows and we did buy someone in January. Funnily enough a quality young player.

Sale was agreed (and announced) in the Summer window though, he only joined in January as the agreement was that he see out the rest of the Brazilian season (which ends in January)

No need for over analysis however likely it is to do it after a game like that.

Simply if yaya starts or kdb drops deeper from the beginning like he has when we've steamrollered teams, their first goal never happens and the Grand Canyon between dinho and the front 5 disappears.

I don't blame the team so much because ultimately Pep shouldn't have tinkered especially when it's been clear as day that dinho has been off form with his passing for weeks.

Much like the rest of your post, this is a ridiculous overreaction. He's had a few poor games in a row now, but it's March and he has 10 assists (our best), 5 goals and makes 5 key passes leading to goal scoring opportunities per game, among the best in Europe.

Has it? Speak for yourself.

We're second in the league, what the fuck are you talking about?

Total bullshit, we didn't beat a top team last season at all and we've already managed it under Pep.

He's made players like Silva and Sterling, who were horrendous last season, much, much better.

If you don't see any improvement then you mustn't be paying attention.

Joe isn't doing that great in Torino, sorry to tell you buddy. Already has a worse shots stopped per goal record than Willy.

lol nah. Pellers was around not that long ago, or have you forgotten how we limped to fourth on goal difference with some of the most shockingly drab performances we've seen post-take over?

Mancini had prime Aguero who wasn't missing sitters like he's been doing all season, but I'd still argue that Sane-Jesus-Sterling make for some of the most exciting football I've seen this side of Barcelona.

He's had one window and Txiki didn't get the people he wanted?

The club supports him, why don't you?

I'm going to be starting the Guardiola song a lot on Sunday at the Etihad, just for you. <3
What was your take on the first half performance? For me a combination of collective mentality and poor individual performance. How we can field a team like that and not mount one attack is well beyond me. the second half proved that the team on the pitch was more than good enough to get something from the game. Monaco were good in the first half but we sure made them look better than they were.

Stones played well. I would question whether his defending is that good, but he does bring the ball out of defence very well.

The rest of the defence are ageing rapidly. and can't defend one on one. Otamendi and Zabaleta like a tackle, but Zab is too slow to handle Monaco's forwards. Likewise Otamendi, who gives away too many fouls.

We were too negative in the 1st half. Instead of going for them we just tried to keep the ball and it allowed them to take the initiative. I don't think it was tactical we just had the mentality of being 5-3 up and did not do what Guardiola asked them to do which was to attack them.

This team can't do what you want and defend properly
