Totally agree with this. The thread is about the last 10 years I know, but had Dickov (and Horlock, as someone else has commented)not scored we would have spent another season at least in the 3rd tier, (look at Sunderland now!) It may have taken a few years for the good times to kick in but that goal was undoubtedly the most important goal in our recent history. Even in the short term we had another couple of hugely enjoyable promotion seasons that brought back some long forgotten 'good vibes' (2000/2001 maybe wasn't great as we clearly weren't ready for the top flight yet)
It has been documented many times that the move to the new ground and all that followed would definitely have been in jeopardy were it not for Dickov's 95th minute goal at Wembley.
The first title win in 2012 certainly will very probably never be matched in terms of emotion or drama (both for of us or the Premier League itself) However, I do feel we still would have gone on to have had a similair level of success soon afterwards.
We ofcourse won the Prem again 2 years later, and had we not won it in 2012 I feel we would have won it in 2013 as we would have had 'The bit between our teeth' as we would have not have effectively conceded it to what was a fairly ordinary Rags side(with the exception of Van Persie to be fair).
Blues of a certain age I doubt will ever feel that Dickov's goal will be taken over (I'm avoiding the use of 'bettered' obviously here)in terms of importance.
