Napoli Vs City Post Match Discussion Thread

Unlike a few posts here, I WAS bothered about the CL this season & so wanted us to do well (perhaps wanting too much, too soon?)

We were undone by a well set-up team on a bad night, with a few timely defensive lapses.

There is always hope for the final matches (ours and the Villareal/Napoli game), but who knows...

One thing that is comforting me is that after being on a 9-match winning streak we were due a bad performance & result so having it in the CL was, whilst being disappointing, not a devastating as it could have been.

Now to focus everything on the Premier League - there is still a lot to be positive about!

This season was about finding our feet in the competition. Not for a second have I thought we'd win it, I never thought we'd even get as far as the quarters. I knew from the outset we'd be naive and raw, and we certainly have been. We actually look like we did last season in the Prem; a bit tentative, a bit nervous, at times we haven't known what to do or when to do things properly, a team that's fresh and new, overall a team who hasn't played at this level of competition before and as a club we haven't. When we played like this last season we had all the morons out in force calling for the managers head, no doubt there'll be a fair few here for our CL campaign evaluations.

We're not out yet. All it takes is Nilmar to get back fit and nick a goal at home to Napoli and I think we will beat Bayern... and we'll be through. But even if that doesn't happen we'll learn a lot from this season's six games in the compeition and move up a level.

On our performances and some management decisions i must admit I'm a bit disappointed. Tonight our strongest team should have been put out. Clichy Richards Barry Agüero should have played. Lose tonight and it was going to be out of our hands (as it has turned out), yet we can afford to lose on Sunday against Liverpool as we have 25 games to make up for it. Now I don't like to criticise individuals but Kompany and Džeko haven't had a good game yet in the Champions Lg. Both poor in decision making and application. But I'm not having a go at them or the manager purposely, I hope they take what they've learnt from all this and improve on it for next season or after Christmas if we somehow manage to be in the comp still. Everyone who had poor games or constant flaws last season have all improved from last season to this and I'm right behind them and have no doubt every aspect of us will improve in the future.

Nothing to be down about. BLUE ARMY!

Aguero was carrying an injury - he missed training session in Italy, and how do you know Micah was fit? He may have been, but remember he was limping after the penalty in the 2nd half v Newcastle.

Just don't assume that the manager had a full hand to choose from

And I maintain that Napoli still have a lot to do. If we score first at home to Bayern, then the pressure is on them straight away.

It's in Napolis hands now, but it was in ours earlier today and we blew it. This is football at a high level. They can quite easily slip up away from home

Out of Europe I reckon. TBH I never cared about Europe, just hope it doesn't effect the players' confidence.

Couple thoughts

1) Never play Dzeko with that little space, he doesn't have the touch
2) Playing two backup fullbacks hurts us
3) If we win against Liverpool and our domestic form doesn't dip, I don't give a fuck.

THIS.

I agree with everything you said but I want to add one more thing,

4) We are better without De Jong.

It was obvious in the first game that we couldnt handle the pace of their forwards with Zab and Kolarov so why go with them again? Tonight we needed to stretch their narrow back three giving Silva the space he thrives in. It's not the fullbacks fault that they don't have the pace that we required tonight, I just don't get this rotation thing with them. Hope Roberto can enlighten us with post match comments on this subject because he knows more than any of us.
