This season was about finding our feet in the competition. Not for a second have I thought we'd win it, I never thought we'd even get as far as the quarters. I knew from the outset we'd be naive and raw, and we certainly have been. We actually look like we did last season in the Prem; a bit tentative, a bit nervous, at times we haven't known what to do or when to do things properly, a team that's fresh and new, overall a team who hasn't played at this level of competition before and as a club we haven't. When we played like this last season we had all the morons out in force calling for the managers head, no doubt there'll be a fair few here for our CL campaign evaluations.
We're not out yet. All it takes is Nilmar to get back fit and nick a goal at home to Napoli and I think we will beat Bayern... and we'll be through. But even if that doesn't happen we'll learn a lot from this season's six games in the compeition and move up a level.
On our performances and some management decisions i must admit I'm a bit disappointed. Tonight our strongest team should have been put out. Clichy Richards Barry Agüero should have played. Lose tonight and it was going to be out of our hands (as it has turned out), yet we can afford to lose on Sunday against Liverpool as we have 25 games to make up for it. Now I don't like to criticise individuals but Kompany and Džeko haven't had a good game yet in the Champions Lg. Both poor in decision making and application. But I'm not having a go at them or the manager purposely, I hope they take what they've learnt from all this and improve on it for next season or after Christmas if we somehow manage to be in the comp still. Everyone who had poor games or constant flaws last season have all improved from last season to this and I'm right behind them and have no doubt every aspect of us will improve in the future.
Nothing to be down about. BLUE ARMY!
