Lies lies and damn statistics, or so the saying goes, statistics are useful but they do give you the full picture or tell you who the better player is. That's why we invest in a scouting network. I think Ake is a decent player but I know nothing of the other fella, TBH stats wouldn't convince me he's better or worse than Ake.

We‘ve already got Aké, why let him go? Why make our squad so thin we risk having to play people out of position? We looked very dodgy at the back in the games Fern had to play there, why invite that again? We should be trying to win everything every season, for that we need a decent size squad, no weak links. Particularly we shouldn’t even consider letting a rival strengthen at our expense.

Good points. If Ake stays we will all be happy. If he leaves we pocket the cash and have players who can fill in. Do you really think the whole defence & back up CB will get injured like last season? I think it’s a one off.
 
I'll be sorry to see him go, as seems likely now (if the twitterati are to be believed). He never complained, and did an excellent job standing in for Dias/Stones at the back end of the season.

I'm not talking about a tactical switch either...I'm saying how do you know we wouldn't replace Ake with another CB...

Not only about injuries. Seeing how we usually go deep in 4 competitions, only 1 of the CB's can get a rest if we're playing Carabao or FA cup then playing a big PL or CL game 3 days later. Players need rest.

Exactly don’t tempt fate,would be typical if we sold Ake and first game of season an injury to one of stones,Dias or Laporte,we can’t eliminate the potential for it too happen,but you can have the added extra of another CB..
 
You are allowed a 25 man squad. Few teams register 25 for various reasons. Three goalkeepers are almost always registered so therefore 3 keepers and 2 for each position. If you are allowed that and you are competing for every trophy use the full allowance. That means four centre backs, it's not rocket science.
 
I think the choices available in the market right now are:

Kimpembe
Pau Torres

Kimpembe will never settle for 4th choice and hes leaving PSG because they couldnt agree on a salary so he wants a high salary ..

Pau Torres is the obvious choice
