Never doubt Pep

Pep's not interested in bringing academy players through. I'm sure he loves coaching them because they're impressionable, but he's been here over 5 years and the only player to get regular starts in the first team is Foden, who let's face it, is exceptional. We never look to the academy in terms of building the first team squad, we just spend £50m on a new signing. Even when we have issues outside of transfer windows, he'd rather play a midfielder or right back at left back than look to the academy. He'd rather play a midfielder up front than look to the academy. The academy's primary function is to generate money for the club to spend on new signings and occasionally an exceptional talent like Foden comes along, but he's very much the exception and not the rule.
To a certain extent i agree with what your saying but how many truly exceptional talent emerge from not just ours but every other clubs academy’s. We only see a glimmer of our kids on rare occasions and we try to make the assumption that what we are seeing is diamonds in the rough. The coaching staff and pep have years of noticing if the talent is there or not and let’s not forget how long a gem like Foden took to cement his place in the first team.

And not enough is made of the so called brilliant footballers not being able to adapt to a change in tactics that they’ll have been working on in training. People talk about Pep and the final as they all turned up at the stadium and Pep landed the news on them there and then. When I reality they’ll have been working on that for weeks in training.

And if they didn’t feel comfortable with it did any of them speak to the coaching staff well in advance of the game?
Very true, a lot of players simply did not turn up on the night, nerves or just a game too many? Not sure, but the manager was not the only one to blame.

Your correct the primary function of the academy is to generate funds , and to produce the occasional £100m player like Foden , name any top four club who are a serious contender that has brought through players from their academy. Its the nature of the beast that we are now expected to finish in the top two places in the league and win a minimum of two trophies a year.
Developing academy players in league games will never happen at our club , no matter who is the manager , but if we bring through a player like Phil Foden every three years and remain succesful then sign me up

That’s because the only player who’s been good enough to get regular starts in the first team is Foden.

Most of these went to lower league clubs, other inferior leagues around the world or aren’t even in football anymore. And the few who may have had a very slim chance to be good enough had excellent players ahead of them in their position.

Why would we blood future League 1 and MLS players, and future taxi drivers and factory workers, into our first team when we try and win every single trophy we play in?

That group of lads who played against Wycombe were in the team because they aren’t like any of those names listed above, they are like Foden, simply worthy of being in the team because they are good enough.

Great post. Very few youngsters have left our club and become world-beaters. The best ones I can think of are Trippier, Sturridge, and Ben Mee. Many have left and had solid careers elsewhere. The bar for the first team is set very high these days. Of the current crop I would say Delap, McAtee, Palmer and perhaps Lavia have a chance of making the highest level. Let's hope so.

Like all managers he makes mistakes but his record speaks for itself and the fact he has lasted longer at our club than the likes of Bayern and Barca speaks for itself.

it would be a huge task for any manager to surpass his record at City , it would be amazing if it occurred but in my lifetime at least I doubt it will occur.

We couldn't be in better hands particularly as he hasn't had the appropriate replacements to players that have rightly retired or left the club after creating history o their own when required.
Legend He has brought total football to Manchester City we play beautiful football winning football. This is the best football I’ve ever seen in my life so many thanks Pep. He has revolutionised the game.Brian Clough would have loved this guy. May he stay for many years
Nigel told Pep that his dad would have loved his football after City hammered Burton 9 nil.
