The NME? For fuck's sake man.

I collected the NME for many years . I even went and bought the previous classic editions on the Smiths and Madchester bands. It was an essential publication for me and introduced me to all kinds of new music. Being a fan of what would be termed alternative music was not seen to be cool while growing up in NH during the 90's, so the NME was a god send for people like me.johnny on the spot said:The NE? Don't buy the NME. It's an absolutely terrible magazine that needs to have its name changed to 'Nostalgia Means Existence'.newtonheathdave said:MCFC BOB said:I don't mean you dismiss things in that way, just dont want you to miss out.newtonheathdave said:Have heard a few of them. To be honest, Hurts have been my favourite band over the last few years. Never got the hype with My Bloody Valentine, music press held Mr Shields up as some kind of hero because he is a crank.
St Ettienne have brought out one of the best Albums of the last few years. The new Human League one is pretty good as well. Music seems to be going through a bit of a rough patch at the minute imo. Hopefully there is another.punk or acid house on the horizon

I dont dissmiss anything, I have pretty varied and ecletic taste where music comes in
Not a fan of Hurts myself.
I am a sucker for electro pop.
Am thinking of starting to buy the NME again to try and keep in touch with new stuff coming out. I lose track these days to be honest.
The NME used to be great up until around two or three years ago. I've no idea what's happened since.newtonheathdave said:Sorry I have not quoted directly Bob but my phone plays up when I use the quote function.
I will keep tracks on that fella. Thats a shame about the NME, that and Melody Maker were class.

There's a free magazine called The Skinny that's in cafés and bars around Manchester and that's quite good. Pitchfork is a decent website too. Drowned in Sound is one my new favourites to read as well.

Yep, pretty much this.Sheikh said:The NME is truly awful.
Last time I bought one was when Spiritualized released Ladies and Gentlemen as I wanted to read the love in.
