Ah, I see.

So Messis reported 200 Million buy out clause is of no benefit to Barcelona.

Thanks I get it now.

No it isn't. If they were willing to accept £30m (yes, I know they wouldn't) then we could buy him for that, if he wanted to come, regardless of any buy out clause, whether it be 30m or 300m.

And yes, of course it is up to the player to agree to a move, I wasn't suggesting any player could be forced to move somewhere as a result of a buy out clause - again in favour of the player not the clubs.

I'm sorry but that is a laughable argument.

Using a non plausible situation to prove your argument. Even you yourself say that the argument you put forward wouldnt happen.

The fact is you are trying to say that Barcelona having a 200m buyout for Messi is of no benefit to Barcelona. Absolute bollocks imho.

ok, how about this made up scenario which has the exact same principle.

Stockport's best player is called Diego Zidane. He is worth 25k - this figure is what Stockport, Telford and the rest of the footballing world think he is worth. However, his buy out clause is 30k.

Stockport are skint and need to sell a player. Telford want Zidane and Stockport have to sell to raise the money.

They phone Stockport and offer 25k ( the fee both clubs value him at).
Stockport agree to sell, Zidane agrees to move to Telford, the deal goes through.

Now, where did Zidane's buy out clause of 30k help Stockport?

Sorry to disappoint but Silva hasn't signed a new contract.

Suppose Zidane is worth 25k and has a release clause of 30k. Instead of your scenario, Stockport are doing fine financially and don't need to sell. A bigger club comes in wanting Zidane and offers the 25k he is worth. Zidane wants the move but can't really force Stockport to sell with transfer requests and pleading with them to accept the offer as he's contracted to a release clause.

All of Porto's stars have been sold for release clauses rather than market value.

Fantastic news.

Although it does beg the question what of Kolarov, Milner, Nasri, and Dzeko. All have deals expiring in just over 12 months.

Whatever we think of them at times, that's still an awful lot of talent to potentially walk on a free.
