Next academy stars?

Was really impressed with McAidoo against Watford. I know he came with a big reputation but still he worked really hard and looked decent.

With the caveat that it is "only" La Liga with RM having an odd season themselves. The PL is much more competitive top to bottom, as last seasons promotion teams found out to their cost.

Rightly or wrongly I'm in the camp that the club can do a lot better with bringing youth through.. That said it's not going to change next season.. I know that it's all about winning but at the same time I personally get a lot of satisfaction from seeing academy players reaching the first team..

It'd be good to see them in the first team for cup games at least. Its clear Pep wants to use the squad players who don't get much prem or UCL game time in the cups though. With his admission that he might need a bigger squad I can only see it getting worse.

Or he starts using them more to create a bigger squad? The money for wages and fees is finite after all.

Now we are finally seeing several academy players making serious waves for other teams it should be something he is considering more .. Surely..

You'd like to think so but the man is a winner. I genuinely think he just thinks of his best chances to win every competition that year and next season is next season. Txiki and now Viana is there to worry about the future. Maybe i'm just being a miserable fucker.

Three starters plus one more on the bench with Foden missing entirely in the last game. Doesn't sound bad to me.

The issue with home grown quotas is also likely to help

cant see them holding off on spots for lads to come off the B list once the club trained is filled though. The HG issue will likely be over by the time the one or two in the U18s get moved up on a perm basis

We seem on here to think it will be u18 players who are next to move into the first team set up, are we suggesting U21 players are not good enough? Im thinking other than Mfuni Pep may tell us different with CWC selection?
No disrespect intended but in development terms they have yet to prove it in PL2.

TBF aren’t Rico, Nic O Reilly and Bobb U21s
I think the U18 have a much higher ceiling than the U21. All have a long way to go however and their ability to, dare I say, stay humble is essential.
tbf Nic O Reilly, Rico Lewis and Oscar Bobb should be counted in current U21 crop.

I guess so but my point I guess is that we seem to overlook lads at 19 if they are still playing u21. Imo many of them nowhere near their ceiling, it’s all opinion but imo as an example Emilio Lawrence arguably got more to his game than wide players in academy, obovwadou potential highest ceiling as a 10 etc, etc. PL2 level is considerably higher than 2 team u18 PL North and we have a very young PL2 side doing exceptionally well yet seemingly written off

Of the u21 wingers. Lawrence looks the best imo.

Should be given a chance in the summer I think.

Along with the u18 talents of Heskey and McAidoo for the wings.

After watching the U18s today it got me thinking about this thread.

I think it's ridiculously hard to predict the next stars from this group due to the abundance of excellent prospects. So many are showing qualities which will see them have professional careers.

Whatmuff, Braithwaite, Noble, Mfuni, Parker, Headley, Miles, Gorman, Mukasa, McAidoo, Heskey and Warhurst all have so much to offer.

If I was pushed I'd say that Noble, Gorman, Mukasa and McAidoo have the most elite football brains. My judgement on that is based on their vision, technique and decision making on a consistent basis. They're all capable of game changing passes when needed.

Then you have players who are highly skilled and physical in their roles. Very productive and potentially top class in what they're good at - Heskey, Mfuni and Braithwaite. Somewhat more predictable but difficult to stop.

They'd be the 7 I rate the highest but Whatmuff is arguably the best keeper we've brought through. Parker is improving and looking strong after a long time out. Miles still adjusting but signs are positive. Headley I want to see more of he's still very young.

I'd be surprised if any of the above don't have a career at some level. Another golden generation.
