Next Manager after Pep

I don't think Ferguson's retirement is at all comparable.

For starters, United's internal sdtructure had basically not evolved since the late 80's because Ferguson was there, we had a modern structure before Pep and not much has changed in the last 8 years in that regard.

Secondly, Ferguson's retirement was very sudden. His wife's twin sister died in October 2012, and he told United he was retiring at the end of the season a few weeks later. They had about 4 months to find a replacement and that's why Pep, Mouirnho, Klopp, van Gaal & Ancelotti turned them down - most had already lined up their next jobs.
It may or may not be. Who we replace Txiki and Pep with will define if our succession plan is better or worse than theirs.

Pep has signed extensions in October/November in the final years of his contract. That gives us exactly the same amount of time to react.

We may or may not have his successor planned. It will be made harder by Txiki going too.

Hopefully it’s not for another few years yet, but we won’t know until next Autumn.

May not be popular based on this weekends results but Arteta seems a good replacement

I am saying he should be No.1 choice but he may be a contender

Would be really useful to take txiki do a extra year or two after pep goes. The two leaving is a big change all at once.

id like to see Fernandinho at the club as a number 2 or 3 assistant to pep and working his way up. Perhaps he could work up to being main assistant of the next manager. That way there would be even more continuity.

The deals get announced in October, but Pep obviously doesn't sign the deal the day they agree it, let alone the day he decides to stay and they're going into these talks knowing he might leave, so the groundwork will be laid for potential replacements.

You really can't compare it to the manager of 26 years with years left to go and no plans to retire turning up in your office in Late November/December and telling you he's gone in May.

The only problem with that is you then have to hire a DOF based on him getting on with the new manager, when really the DOF should be the long term position and picking the manager.

Yeah, maybe. Players becoming managers is often more for sentimental reasons, rather than sound logical ones.

Fernandinho might become a superb manager, but he’s still playing, isn’t he?

I’d be all for reintegrating him into our coaching system, but I’d probably want someone more experienced to take over.

You don’t know that. You’ve assumed that. We could very well be scrambling when he finally calls it a day.

If they hadn’t thought a septuagenarian might retire, then they deserved the mess they were in. You could also see what our title did to him. He bought old players to win their 20th title and called it a day.

They could have had any manager in the world. They had the money and were successful at the time. The back room team was also still in place. We have to be grateful to Moyes for sacking them all and making United into Everton.

In the past 10+ years what have our upper management done to make you think they're going to be caught scrambling and unprepared when Pep calls it a day?

There aren’t many things that we could accuse our board of doing badly over the years.

How we change managers could well be at the top of the list though.

Hughes-Mancini. Hughes winning a match and waving goodbye as Mancini was already in the boardroom.

Mancini-Pellegrini. The Wigan final farce and you can stick your Pellegrini up your arse.

Pellegrini-Pep. Pellegrini’s rushed statement in January announcing he wasn’t taking the option on his extra year as manager as Pep had decided to come.

Who knows what this next change will look like.
