Next season is MH more likely to play 442 or 433?

Keegan played 3-5-2 with wingbacks the season we went up. SWP was one and i think Granville was the other

Ah yes - wingbacks - wouldn't that make it something bizarre like 3-1-4-2 (or 3-3-2-2 if you don't think he was an attacking madman) - he definitely talked about his triangle in midfield with one player in a strict position very close to the defence.

If, as expected, we sign 2 more centre backs to add to Onuoha, Kompany will find himself directly competing with De Jong for the 1 remaining midfield spot alongside Ireland and Barry. In most of our team sheets, we have been opting for De Jong, but is this REALLY the way we all see it? I've been thinking about it, and Vinnie was far superior to De Jong at DM last season.

Assuming we sign 2 quality centre backs, i'd go for:

...............................GIVEN..............................

.................NED/NEW CB.......NEW CB..................
ZAB/MICAH.............................................BRIDGE

............................KOMPANY.............................
...........................................BARRY..................
....................IRELAND.......................................

.......TEVEZ......................................ROBINHO.....
............................ADEBAYOR............................

4-4-2 mostly for me.

Depends largely on the defence, will it be strong enough to have 3 strikers. Away from home I honestly see more of 4-4-2 and being strong whilst carrying a attacking threat. Too many times last year away we were bullied out of games, whilst at home could beat anyone. I think at home OR away we will have something like this as our back four :

Given GK
Richards RB
New CB
New CB
Bridge LB

with at home:

Johnson(CM)
Ireland (CM)
Barry (CM)

Tevez (FWD)
Santa or Ade (FWD)
Robinho(FWD)

Whilst Away:

SWP (RM)
Ireland (CM)
De Jong (CM)
Barry (LM)

Tevez (Fwd)
Ade (Fwd)

Robbie and Tevez playing as wide striker type players and NDJ as a holding midfielder...

That exact team at home for me but the intriguing option against lesser teams that come for a draw is

............................Given................................

Zabs...............Neds/VK..........Lescott...........Bridge

.......................Ireland..........Barry

Swp..........................................................Petrov

........................Tevez/Robbie...............................

............................Adebayor/RSC

Two wide players, a target man and Ireland creating in the middle. Barry can sit a little and no need for Ndj as the other team wont see the ball

i'm not sure he will be dropping a combination of tevez robbie or adebayor to play 442

with five quality stikers at his disposal he will be playing three in a 4 3 3 with tinkering of midfield for home away games

I said a while back MH would go with 4-3-3 and was told "Tevez isn't a winger" duh!
I agree most likely formation give or take a bit at the back!

you state 442 mostly then give a 4 3 3 formation at home? by my maths that 50% also i know robinho was pretty lamentable away from home last year but cant see hughes dropping our most expensive player 19 times, hopefully surrounded by better players we will have more posession and he will be more effective

i hope he starts the season with a 433 formation with, BARRY,lm IRELAND,cm SWP,rm ROBBIE,lf ADY,cf TEVEZ,rf. this looks full of goals on paper, if they gell it coulde be skys the limit. dont know about the back 4 untill JT and LESCOT sorted.

4-2-3-1 (home)

---- Given/Taylor ----

Zabaleta/Richards - Dunne/Terry - Onuoha/Lescott - Bridge

---- De Jong/Kompany ---- Barry ----

Tevez/swp ---- Ireland/Elano ---- Robinho/Petrov

---- Adebayor/RSC ----

4-4-1-1 (away)

---- Given/Taylor ----

Zabaleta/Richards - Dunne/Terry - Onuoha/Lescott - Bridge

swp ---- De Jong/Kompany ---- Barry ---- Petrov

---- Tevez/Ireland/Elano/Robinho ----

---- Adebayor/RSC ----

Narrow diamond 4-4-2

-----------------------Given-----------------------

Rich---------Ned--------------Lesc----------Bridge

----------------------Dejong----------------------

------------Ireland------------Barry---------------

-------------------robbo-------------------------

-----------Tevez-----------Ade------------------

Robbo given a free role

then bring on swp 4 a striker 4 the 4-3-3 tactic...
