NFL 2021/22

I'm not particularly a big fan of Mayfield.

So many question marks over Mayfield.

Just to make clear, I love his attitude. He's got the perfect personality for the Browns. The team needed someone like him.

Last year with a good coach (not the joke that was Freddie Kitchens), he was solid in teh first half of the season and top 5 in plenty of stats in the second half). However, he has been poor this year, on the whole. There are mitigating circumstances. He has been injured most of the year, playing with a dislocated shoulder (non throwing arm) and often carrying more than one injury. Plus lots of injuries across the team to his WRs, the first choice OL has been played together for less than an hour all season. He has missed plenty of throws though which cannot be directly related to the injury but then it could affect him mentally. He really should not be playing. Five minutes in to the game against the Ravens on Monday, he was struggling to simply jog slowly. He had not even been hit at this point.

Whatever people think of Baker, he's no worse than slightly above average when not carrying an injury that affects him movement. After all, he plays in a heavy play action scheme that that requires roll outs etc.. He simply cannot do those effectively at the moment. Teams are stacking the box but his throwing has been inconsistent at best these last few weeks and the WRs have been garbage. Austin Hooper at TE too.

There are hundreds of pages debating Baker on Browns forums. Plenty of YouTube videos too. It's divided the fanbase. Goodness knows if the Browns are going to look for a trade or give him the big contract.

Have a soft spot for the Cleveland Browns, even though am a long suffering Miami Dolphins fan so maybe there's a connection there!

In my opinion Baker Mayfield (what a name by the way) is a good/average NFL QB & he certainly isn't elite to command a huge contract renewal. However, he's probably the best QB the Browns have acquired for as long as I can remember, much like the Dolphins trying to find that ever elusive Dan Marino quality QB for umpteen years. It seems Stefanski is shoe-horning Baker into starting even though its clear his injury is hampering the team. Baker is hardly going to declare himself not fit to play (like most players) so I do think Stefanski needs to make a hard decision & start Case Keenum (no cheap back up QB) if he continues to play this particular type of offense where accuracy is key on short passing downs.

I see a lot of similarities with Mayfield & Murray who were both electric at Oklahoma. The difference in the NFL is the Cardinals have setup the whole offense towards Murray's strengths, whilst the Browns have gone for a more traditional ground & pound the ball, to set up play action passes which really isn't Mayfield's strong skill set or at least cater to them. I do like his leadership qualities, but he's no Brady or Rodgers type QB skill level.

Feels like once again a wasted season for the Browns with such a talented roster. Defence seems to be strong & I would say the future should be bright with Andrew Berry at the helm making the off field decisions, well at least compared to the Dolphins front office which is a mess.

Yes the two Cowboys games are going to be huge.
There is no team with a big record in 2nd throughout the Conference so a chance for the play offs.
Having said that I hate playing the Raiders and the Cowgirls :-) Eagles is also a double header.
Momentum is a big deal in the NFL, three wins on the bounce since the bye week, so the team will be full of confidence. Defence playing well despite missing Young and Sweat.
This may put the kiss of death on it but December is usually a good month for WFT.

You've fucked them right over there.

That's me as well, Dolphins when I first started watching it on Channel 4 all those years ago. Can't listen to 'Sweet Dreams' by the Eurythmics without going back to the NFL. I think I got into the Browns because of my City mentality - back the underdog. I want Mayfield to be the guy, but I just get the feeling he thinks he's better than he is. Maybe they just need a few tweaks. Mind you, I didn't know he was playing through an injury. They're always the score I look for, closely followed by the Dolphins and the Ravens (I'm very simple minded, the Ravens because of the Wire - it's pathetic really).

Here's one for our cousins across the water.

When a team moves (Raiders obviously come to mind) does support move with them? For instance, are there people in LA who are still Raiders fans? I'd imagine this stick with your team, but being a Brit I'm not sure how people in the States view it.

When the Raiders played the Chargers in LA in early October, there appeared to be more Raider Nation in the stadium; it looked like a wall of black. Probably all came down from Oakland...
