Can't understand those saying wait and see if we replace him.
It's not the fact he has been sold and replaced thats the issue its the price we've supposedly let him leave for, £3.5M that's absurd if true.
If we're not renewing his contract then we can only get what teams are prepared to offer.

Lose more money keeping him on the books and not playing him.

The economics are reasonable in my view. It's more the footballing side of it that worries me as for me there is still a big need for him in the big games eg Europe. I think mancini has decided that he wants his team on the front foot all the time, and De Jong is an out and out defensive midfielder

Mancini for me should be more defensive minded at times

Even the unproven, unknown Savic cost us 6-7m last year.

De Jong for 3m with proven career, many experience from three different leagues, international, WC finalist, it is like super business and he is only 27 years old. Maybe he is not a starter in our team he is a starter at many good teams. Milan is rebuilding atm and NDJ he can be a big part of that.

Whichever way you look at it, we have really messed up this window. If the strategy was to go for a small no. of top players so be it. Stick to the list and do what we can. But to fire sell players like De Jong at this stage defies logic. Can only hope it isnt true but it says much more about our management (on and off field).

You don't know if he is being replaced by a better player yet, wait till the window shuts

In my view (looking at the history of deadline signings) only idiots deal on deadline day. Rushing the signing of what will be an expensive player is not sensible and was not needed. What possible reason can there be for waiting until now to do this deal (if there is a quality player coming in). Only players that are out of contract drop in value. Assuming this mythical superstar some are expecting is a top player we will have to pay a 25-50% premium. How is that clever? In any event, why not just keep De Jong. Its impossible to see a scenario where with these Champions league games and the ANC we won't need experienced options in midfield.

Is it official, nothing on OS yet

Couple of press reports coming out of India and Italy is all that's been reported.

A bit surprised nothing has been reported on the bbc and sky sites yet as they are not usually that slow.

All will be revealed soon one way or the other.

Gutted if DeJong goes, and if its for as low a fee as being mentioned, then it's just an awful piece of business all round.
We must have a ready made, top quality, and I mean top quality, player lined up to replace him.Thats all I can think of.
I agree mate, no way we would weaken like this unless someone is coming in!

Yes you are probably right I but what if the owners are simply just offloading a player they are not prepared to let go on a free

No guarantee of a replacement based upon what we know no replacement is likely or we already have him in Milner or rodwell

If this is economics Keynes must be turning in his grave - it makes good sense to sell someone who is worth £10M+ for £3.5M - absolute flaming nonsense

Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong is flying to Italy to hold talks with AC Milan over a permanent transfer.

When we bought NDJ we were in a different place to where we are now. We had to pay the "new City premium" and also convince Hamburg that they were better off selling him than keeping him and losing him for nowt. I am also fairly sure that there were many other teams interested.

Now NDJ is at the end of his deal and if Milan are the only suitors then the club has probably gone do we want a deal worth £9.5m now (£3.5m fee + wages saving if the reoported £120k a week are true) or do we want him to not play (knowing that he is not in Bobby's plans) and cost us £6m.

If that was the only option on the table then I cannot see how the club could have done any better. IMHO.

Lee "Badbuy" Bradbury: Bought for a club record £3million when he was worth about £300.

Felipe Caicedo: £800k option to buy which Levante took then sold him for around £8million.

Roque Santa Cruz: Signed for £18million.

Nigel de Jong: Sold for £3.5million (imminent).

Take your pick. :)

Doesn't make sense to me. Bobby said no one out till we have a replacement - on that basis there must be someone coming in as Rodwell isn't a replacement yet.
I wonder how Vinny and Joe feel ?
He's not needed all the time, but when he is.....

Heard from a good source that SSN are going to run a special reports section for 60mins highlighting all our transfer dealings the Richard Wright transfer will be highlighted but the NDJ will get top billing. The show will be called Comedy Hour.

Milan want him,we don't need to sell him so either they pay a proper fee or we keep him.
