Noel Gallagher on Talksport

I met them once in the early nineties when we brought them back from France on a Wednesday morning onboard our ship. It was pretty quiet and they were all camped out in the bar. The boss asked them if they wanted to move into a private lounge but they said they were fine in the bar. All of them mixed and sat together, roadies, security, Noel and Liam, the lot. There was no airs and graces and they happily chatted and posed for pics with anybody who asked. Their head of security knew one of our girls who'd worked with him in Kent and he gave her three free tickets for their next gig in Newcastle along with backstage passes. We were playing West Brom that night and I asked Liam ( Who was on Jack Daniels at 10:00 ) I if he was going but he said he didn't think they'd make it. Sound lads.

As others have said at a time we were pretty much shit most of the time, they never shield away from letting everyone know they were City fans and promoted us whenever they could. Back then we might have been shit on the field but the world's biggest band supported us and that gave us a bit of kudos and credibility and kept us in the public eye. Both are still pretty busy touring but still get to games when they can.

The players certainly know who they are and in video's after winning trophies have often been seen singing their songs in the dressing room. On the whole Noel defends us very well and runs rings around the other pundits, he even schooled Jordon. Liam is still the loose cannon but unnerves our detractors because of that which is nice to see, they're scared he might smack them one lol.

In this life not everybody is liked but I'm sure the majority of Blues will agree the brothers have done and still do a good job of flying the Blue cause and sticking it to our critics.

I met Noel briefly outside Maine Road and he signed an autograph and was fine. Aside from that I've had no interactions with either of them, but I agree with your post mate. When they were the biggest band in the country and City were, let's face it, pretty terrible at that time, they still banged on about City at any opportunity and even neutrals knew who they supported. I get people not liking them, or even their music, but the idea they're somehow riding on the coat tails of recent success is nonsense.

Noel Gallagher is the best ambassador this club has ever had. He does all these interviews about City, presumably for nothing, because he loves the club. He represents the supporters really well overall. I remember when Oasis split and he did a press conference and at the end he said something like "If you excuse me, I've got a football club to support".

Back in the 90s Oasis were a hundred times bigger than City and there can be no doubts that they boosted our image purely because of their support.

This is the critical part for me. He's not jumping on the bandwagon, Oasis have always been well-known for supporting City even when we were shite. It was largely what kept us relevant to non-City fans to be honest, because we weren't otherwise. He doesn't follow the club week in week out because life gets in the way, but he's still there, still represents us and still puts up a fight if someone spouts shite. He doesn't have to have read the CAS verdict or been through our books to represent us, he can just laugh things off and be an old fashioned fan who loves his football club and hates their rivals. We don't have many people giving us credit or having our backs so I don't know why we'd question someone who does.

They're two working class kids from Burnage who got to live the dream. None of us would turn down the chance to celebrate with the players if we could. Considering they're just two kids from a council estate with no media training they do okay holding their own with pundits who have.

Great Post

I was just making the point if they reformed they’d still be a huge draw amongst young people. If you’re at a music festival and an Oasis song comes on the crowd go mad for their music. Haaland asked him for a selfie so a young European who obviously knew who he was.Maybe ask Alvarez if he’s heard of him next time you have a selfie together.

Agree the changing room part is a bit cringe but i wouldn’t be turning it down if i was him after we’ve won a trophy. Can only assume the club don’t really realise he was once a working class manc or they’d charge him a fortune.
They're definitely appreciated by younger audiences. Oasis fans at work are too young to have known them at the time. Same way when I was a kid we were listening to Motown, Marley, Hendrix, Stones, Beatles, Led Zep, Bowie from twenty years earlier, Oasis are classic now. I did think it got a bit much at the time, when all the bandwagon jumpers suddenly started saying they were into Blurpulpoasis at once, came to Maine Rd with the Liam walk, got taxed on Great Western Street and found they weren't hard after all...BUT...whatever you say about personality, the songs have aged really well, hard to argue any British guitar band has surpassed them since, my 10-year-old knows exactly who they are.

Oasis haven’t been relevant since the noughties,

you really think the likes of Alvarez, Gomez, Perrone and probably most of the foreign lads in the squad would have any awareness as to who Noel Gallagher is if he wasn’t always in the changing rooms forcing them to sing wonderwall lmao
The Beatles & Elvis haven’t been relevant in my lifetime, but I’m pretty certain I know who they are/were & what they look(ed) like, along with knowing loads of their songs

So not sure what your point is here fella?
