Crane getting ready to lift another big piece , just drove past .
Pace of the build is really impressive. I wonder whether the contractors find it any different working with us in contrast to other clubs/companies with our UAE connection. We always have the approach to build quickly, cheaply and to a high quality which usually ends up in delivering quickly, slightly more expensively than hoped and to a low quality in my experience. But the standards they drive you'd expect they manage to deliver all three.

Just the 350 million plus...fucking hell !!Plenty of cheaply and low quality here, unfortunately. Almost all the facades, for one.

Calm yourself.Just the 350 million plus...fucking hell !!
Yes well done.Should've been Marble !

Yes well done.
In your opinion what would have been the appropriate budget ?

No you were right.Great perspective.
Look at the construction worker in the bright orange H&S work wear stood next to the right steel upright.
The far left upright is the one that was on the ground yesterday.

I guessed 20-25 metres yesterday. Looks like I was way out.
I'll ask how tall the steel uprights are at the Open Doors Q&A event in March.
Oh! Not a bad guess then. :-)No you were right.
The front ones are 26m (in total). The back ones 29m.
Up to that node is 24m for the back one, 21m the front one. So the top piece is going to have a bit more height to it.
The circular platform is 15m above the tower roof. And 54m above the ground.
Rounded to the nearest metre.
It isn't always about the budget.
I have seen new buildings in Manchester with great exterior cladding, that probably didn't cost that much to clad.
As the hotel is basically a mid-rise box, it wouldn't have cost that much more to clad it in better looking cladding.
You are wasting your time.It isn't always about the budget.

So, what cladding should have been used that is better, and doesn't cost more.
And why is it better
Where do you begin?
The cladding choices are infinite. So are the costs.
Suffice to say, there are better sail/fin options than the one on the mockup.(in my opinion)
It is what it is. It isn't changing now.
We'll get a better idea of how the cladding and sails/fins look when they start to go on.
I have no preconceptions or expertise, and really value your explanations of the complexities of this exciting build. From the many images I’ve seen on here I haven’t got a clue what the hotel etc will look like! My question (genuine, not loaded) is how confident are you that it’ll look shit? Definitely shit, probably shit or the jury’s out?You are wasting your time.
Sometimes people actually want to have a conversation, sometimes they just want to be fannies.
