North Stand Construction Discussion

As a lay person, I find it fascinating and thanks to everyone for contributing. It already looks very impressive and is incomparable to what is not going on on the other side, just outside the city.

I love the shots last night which show the Athletics Stadium, Squash and Tennis facilities which we obviously don't own but that confirms the partnership with MCC. When you throw in the Velodrome and BMX arena (which we never hear or see much about) it really is a sports area/village/campus, now. The cherry on the top being the Concert arena. I'm not sure Coop will be able to compete on the next contract, but I'm getting ahead of myself, and that's what this development does to you. As for the potential of the collar ....

Edit. Forgot about the CFA!

My Dad was born in the area and I would have loved to have shown him this and wondered what he would have made of it.

Zoomed in.

The picture really shows how high the new North stand roof will be compared to the current North stand roof, and the roofs on the Colin Bell stand and East stand.

....'ti's a big bugger.

Pricing and conditions are going to be crucial to its occupancy and success.

Getting it right is easy, getting it wrong should be impossible !!

The 3rd image gives a glimpse of the fan zone and it appears there are steps leading up to the stadium it's self. I hadn't realised there was a gradient from the edge of the hotel up to the North Stand (or Pep Stand, as I like to call it).

Also a glimpse of the Sky walk.

Hi, are you comfortable working on scaffolding at height, in potentially high winds but with some great views?

- yes, why how high are we talking?

It is a fairly small platform, on probably only about three storeys' worth of scaffolding.

- that doesn't seem too bad, doesn't seem attached to much though.

No, it isn't attached to anything really, it is built around 4 large leaning piers that need connected at the top.

-Right ok, doesn't sound too bad given it is only 3 or so storeys off the ground.

We didn't say off the ground. We said tall.

- Ok? What do you mean.

It is built off a hanging platform, on top of a circular disc in mid air, held on a 15m tall temporary prop.

- right ok, still doesn't feel too bad, what are we talking, maybe 30 metres off the ground?

64, actually.

- not following, doesn't look that tall.

Yeah, see the whole thing is actually built on top of a roof of a steel tower.. that partly cantileveres a new overganging skybar on top of a..

- fuck that, I'm out.

think it’s just an optical illusion in respect of the steps , just different shades of hard paving ?

Radisson Hotel Group announces its collaboration with Manchester City for the Club’s 401-room hotel, which is set to open in late 2026. Operating all year round, the hotel will provide convenient and comfortable accommodation for music and sport fans who are attending events at the Etihad Stadium, visitors to the UK’s largest indoor arena, Co-op Live, as well as guests exploring the wider entertainment destination and Manchester itself.

The Medlock will offer guests a choice of suites, deluxe and standard rooms, in addition to a luxury penthouse suite. Upon completion, guests will also have access to a wide variety of food and drink outlets, a roof walk and museum experience and commercial office space in the expanded stadium area.

To capitalize on the high demand for large corporate and MICE facilities in Manchester – one of the UK’s most desirable and fastest growing cities for both tourists and businesses – the hotel will have access to meeting and events space available at the Etihad Stadium and is easily accessible from the city centre.
