North Stand Expansion

Couple of things I hadn't really paid attention to before.

The two brick sides of the covered square are at different heights, the office block one is a fair bit higher than the hotel. The screens on each are a different width, which we did point out before. The etfe roof sits higher up on the inside faces than the sails on the outside facades, cutting them at a different height. They did not seem to care much for symmetry or anyone with a hint of ocd.

Oh FFS. And here was me hoping the square was going to be even!

It gives a true impression of the size and scale of the whole North stand redevelopment.

Yeah, the hotel and office can sometimes 'look' relatively small, next to the big stadium. But place them in a dense urban part of town, and they take up a pretty big chunk, sometimes a couple blocks at a time.

Ha, trying to work out if you are being sarcastic or not.

But it is true, the images are good at hiding some of the 'sins', but there are a fair few odd things happening that have probably gone unnoticed. Not that most would care on the day of course.

The concrete cores give a good sense of scale, even though they are only 9 stories high. Once the steel frames are added I think most of us will be surprised if not shocked at the size and scale of the 2 claws and the dead leg hotel.

Found an image (presumably slightly older) that shows both sides of the City square. Again, just pointing out it went somewhat unnoticed because most show only one at a time. But that height difference and roof placement is still the same.

The size of it might sometimes be lost a bit, because it sits next to a massive stadium with lots of space around it.

So here it is at the bottom of Deansgate, for a more relatable sense of scale.

The covered square takes up the whole of the road, pavement, and almost a row of buildings either side, under the roof! Those screens would be hard to miss too!

Massive, truly massive.

Add the constrained area around the claws, hotel and the Coop Live Arena. It's going to look pretty dense and impressive as you walk up Joe Mercer Way, and walk up the steps from the Etihad Metrolink tram stop.
