Nostalgia

Although all my Aunties and Uncles have passed away now, almost all used to give my sister and I half a crown and in later years a pound note whenever we saw them. Roll on the years, I’m now giving my great nieces and nephews £20 each, bloody good job I’m still working, I’d be skint.

Same for me Norm. Opening the envelopes not knowing whether a Green one pound note or a Red 10 shilling note would fall out, either made me feel great. I too have cut back this year just a tenner in the gift wallets, feel like Scrooge. A fiver or a tenner are taken for granted these days. When I transfer my grandsons spends I upped it from a tenner to£10.25 a week, seems to be more meaningful to me. How much Chix, Bazookas, Spangles and Penny Arrow bars could you get for that.

Don’t eat Rathbones bread
It’ll make you shit the bed
And blinking heck no wonder
It makes you fart like thunder

Beer at home means Davenports
That’s the beer
Lots of cheer
The finest hops with malt and yeast
Turns a snack into a feast
Straight from brewery to your home
Why collect we’ll deliver
Soon you’ll know why folks all say
Beer at home means Davenports.
For us in this end of Wythenshawe it was Rowlands bread who used to deliver in the 1960’s:)
