Where do these whingers come from ?
Flat game, 0-1 up from the first leg
Mickey mouse opposition
Live on TV
To any regular Blue and I've been watching 44 years now a win was nailed on by the second string.
Atmosphere...... Maine Road had its quite moments but think the whingers are brainwashed by Sky... every moment every match awash with passion.
Get real
The game tonight was an oppertunity just to admire a game we dominated, no need for the crowd to drive the team forward it was a work out thats all.
We pay to watch a match, the atmosphere nonsense is media generated it always depended on the passion around the the tie not a mickeymouse early EUFA round.
Guess all these people who think Sky invented football have a lot to learn and its not turned on by a switch.
Guess the fools will have to work out media manipulation on exploitation of the idiot mass's and the reconcile it to a simple football match against weak opposition.
All part of the fun in drawing in non football fans without knowledge or history in either the game or our contribution from the terrace to this wonderfull football club.

Ooohhhhhhh, read that and thought it would put the cat amongst the pigeons. But no, not yet anyway.

I think there is some truth in it. Not necessarily the 'non football fans' as, although they will come I don't think they are the people who will get most animated by this subject.

However, there is a misconception, and some of it at least is media driven, that "passion" is overflowing at every football match and that "the fans at XXXXX are the best/most loyal/most passionate in the world" (I put XXXX there as you'll hear it said about most clubs during the course of a season).

I can remember plenty of awful atmospheres at Maine Road (and it is the same at every ground in this country) when I put my mind to it, but my rose tinted overall impression is that every atmosphere was brilliant and there was a huge wall of noise for every minute of every game.

The atmosphere isn't as good here though, but that is due to the sterile nature of most modern grounds imo. But I couldn't really give a stuff if some child like rag tells me that City haven't got big or loud crowds or whatever and thinks this is somehow a badge of honour, so it's not a subject that I can get too animated about.

(Although, I'd love to know what the first post is hinting at as I have been banging on for ages that certain parts of the club currently have a certain focus on a certain section of fans who they are desperate to attract/please and, let's say, not as much focus on others)

Size of the crowd doesn't make the atmosphere, its the occasion and the fans that do...

Timiwotsit was a big away day for them, a coach loads of pissed up Romanians are bound to cause some noise. and there was maybe what just 100 of them?

We grabbed the away goal in the 1st leg, killing the possible occasion in the 2nd leg.
if they would of scored first i can guarantee the atmosphere and game pace would of changed completely.

Free meals and all these gimmicks don't work for me - what would of got me down there tonight would of been the risk element, we lose 2-1 in the 1st leg against a team we actually knew about, and COMS would of been packed.

The Liverpool game was the first home game of the season which is why more people vyed for tickets, plus having just spent £50 a few days before this detered people from going.

23k is a good turnout for a pointless training ground exercise :)

Well I'm just home, after a 10 hour round trip, I've just opened a beer, and tell you what, I thoroughly enjoyed the game, enjoyed their fans who were superb, and I don't see what all the "atmosphere" fuss is about.

23k was a good crowd, but lots of regulars were missing, and it was never going to have a derby atmosphere was it ? 2 legged games can always turn out this way if you win away.

Sometimes its acceptable to just enjoy the football, and watching a mostly second string, play almost the same pass and move game as Monday nights domination of Liverpool, which everyone raved about, was excellent.

When the team needs support it gets it, tonight it simply didn't need any. I bet the atmosphere at Villa Park was a bit different......and not in a good way.

Bring on the group games, can't wait.

The club has spent so much on the family stand. I expect that similair improvements will be made on the stadium next off-season. Well I hope they do.

Well, I was there tonight in the East stand and I thought that the atmosphere was alight.

I was pissed up with mi mate in 117 signing our heads off all through out the game, I even whipped mi top off for the ladies then got told to put mi tits away ! Two of us singing ! I had a great night not arsed if no one else didn't.

I can remember plenty of games at Maine Road when that was about the size of the crowd. I think everyone who bothered to turn up tonight should have been given a voucher to be redeemed should we get to the Final.

I'm not even bothering with a tin hat.

Should someone who turns up to one discounted match get preference over a season ticket holder who (for whatever reason) couldn't make it?
