Agree re The Musical Box.one of the best gigs ive ever been to.A Canadian band reinterpreting the best of the Gabriel years, saw them 10 or12 years ago.brilliant.Your original post spot on imho and experience.
Tribute bands are less expensive to get tickets for, play in smaller venues, much better deal.
I always said if one of my fav bands Genesis reformed with Gabriel singing that he just wouldnt be able to sing the tunes properly - they are plenty of G tribute bands (Musical Box etc) who perform them much better.
It is most noticeable when it comes to the singer; saw 70 yr old Richie Blackmore recently - he cant solo like he did, but the quality of the tunes was so good, and he had a new singer in, so it was much like watching a Purple/Rainbow tribute band anyway.
More recently Lizzie and the Banshees ,a scottish Siouxsie tribute are absolute quality, id recommend them to anyone into that post punk/new wave era.
