Otamendi

I'd like to replace Demecilis but I know it's unlikely.

Hate united getting him. He seems a class CB and would be great for us.

Demichelis' days at City are clearly numbered, given he'll be 35 by Christmas that's hardly earth shattering news. However he'll be a City player until the end of this season, of that I've no doubt. Pellegrini rates him highly, and his performances last season were certainly good enough to have him around as one of our 4 centre half options. It wouldn't surprise me to see him leave, on a free, next summer to go and join up with NYCFC.

Can't see us adding a centre half at all this summer. Demichelis, Mangala and Kompany aren't going anywhere this summer I'd suspect, and Denayer really needs to be included as the 4th option, for his development, and to aid us in future seasons when we can use him as a club homegrown player in our squads. 5th centre half would be decadent, and simply fill up a squad spot needed elsewhere. Otamendi, if he's going anywhere, will end up at United, as their need for a top quality centre half is there for all to see.

He has a point though to some degree. One of our CBs has never played a prem game, another is probably in his last season. Mangala was unconvincing for much of the season and the form of Kompany is a concern. Of course Denayer could be a star, Mangala might have a cracking second season and Kompany might get back to his best but we're still going to need a replacement for MD next season and we won't know who will be available at that time. if a top quality option becomes available at a reasonable price, I see no reason why we wouldn't be interested.

You're in a better negotiating position to buy when you don't immediately need a player than when you're desperate for one.

Nail on the head there my man.

City Watch just tweeted to say us and United will both make formal offers. Not sure we need him but fuck it, if it means they can't sign him.

And then Denayer will replace him, and we'll have a club trained, HG centre-back who has the potential to be one of the best in the world. Made the step up to international level with belgium like it was nothing. Spending €50m on Otamendi to the detriment of strengthening other areas, and also curtailing any path to a starting position for Denayer would be a terribly short-sighted move.

Don't Valencia still owe us negredo money ....

No idea, however, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter. Financially our owners can spend without needing money to actually come in, and from a FFP perspective, even if we don't actually physically receive the money, it's the value we sold Negredo for, so we can still account as if we've got the money.

Don't get why we want a CB. We already have 4, unless we are planning on selling one? Which could only be Mangala or Demi...

I've no doubt that in time, Denayer and Mangala will be up there with the best in the world. If circumstances dictated them to be our only available cb's though, I'd be concerned.
