Owning a nice watch

Never understood watch wearers. Given you have the time on your phone I guess it's just a fashion accessory?

I'd say it's a bit more than a 'fashion accesory', more of a 'look at my wad' kinda thing.

As an investment, I agree, you are spot on.

I bought a submariner in 2007 for £3,300 - the one with the enlarged lume spots and a green bezel - an "LV". It's now worth £15k.

It's a lovely watch. But 27k, for a used one? Ouch. Even if I won the euro millions, I couldn't see myself spending that sort of money on a watch.

When I'm out and about I never check my phone for the time. It's quicker to glance at my wrist and I'm not likely to be distracted by a message or missed call when I'm doing something else and had no intention of checking my phone. It also means I can leave my phone at home more often, which is nice.

That being said, I've never bought one that costs more than £25. I'd love to get a nice one but, to be quite honest, I was raised poor and I'll almost certainly die poor. So for the meantime, I'll just get plain cheap shit until it breaks two years down the line and then buy a new one.

Crazy money indeed. When I bought mine I had no idea it would appreciate in value like that.

But to be fair, you are on to a safe bet with Rolex's. I bought a Daytona in the Bahamas around 2002 I think it was, for £5k. Sold that years later when I needed the money for £9k. I'd get £15k for it now.

And that's wearing them all the time so they have micro scratches and general signs of wear. Buy one, leave it in its box - maybe wear it for a wedding or two - and get it out to sell it 10 years later and you'll make a very handsome return.

I would love to spend 5k and get an Iwc but that’s me living in dreamland! Maybe a k, I quite like the look of tag formula one

I would get a Rolex or Omega, with good provenance.

A Grand Seiko. Just as good as good if not better than a Rolex for a lot less cost.

I fancied a nice watch when I finished work last year. I'd been looking for 12 months or so and had narrowed it down to about 5, the dearest one being this one which was 4k. Anyway, we were in Kuala Lumpur this time last year and there are loads of fancy watch shops in the malls and they are significantly cheaper than here, so I had a look around and got this model for just under 3k. Maybe worth keeping in mind once we can travel again!

Agree with this. I have a Datejust 41. but I’m trying to save my way to px for a Sky dweller.

i started out with a second hand date just that was 7 years old and paid about £3.5k for it......sold it after 3 years for £5k and px cash for a newer version (SH Datejust 41 only 3 months old). Think I put £3k cash in so total was £8k.......it’s now worth £10k.
