I'm trying to see both sides of view to be honest, the deep rooted history and the complexity of so many issues resulting where we are once again This thread has gone round in so many circles and the same for every TV debate and all other media outlets, I'm sure Hamas and Israel are benefiting from all this, I just hope for peace for every innocent man women and child caught up in this never ending war.

If you want to see both sides, can you lay off the Israeli propaganda juice? Or are you going to be posting some articles by Hamas representatives at some point?

Yep, the lunacy is balanced out now, can we try to bring it back to a saner debate where the Palestinians need a state and the occupation needs to end so that the likes of Hamas can be consigned to the ideological rubbish bin of history?

He is also, of course (no pun intended), Jewish. His basic premise in the video is that the Palestinians are the root cause of the problem because they didn't agree to Jews muscling into their land and setting up their own Jewish state there for their own people. In the wrong because the Israelis did agree to this.

I've contributed off and on to this thread. Mainly off because the protagonists have fixed and immovable positions and trying to "debate" is pointless. However, I must say this.

One has to admire the determination of the Palestinians to continue when at such a disadvantage.

If the roles were reversed, the Israelis would have capitulated long ago. ;o)

The roles were most definitely reversed in 1948. After the UN approved the partition plan, the standing Arab armies of Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq (together with Palestinian paramilitary forces that had been attacking Jews for 20 years) moved to destroy the fledgling state. They had tanks, mortars, planes and limitless weaponry and ammunition. Yet the Israelis won pretty comprehensively, probably because they had nowhere else to go and knew what the outcome would most likely be if they lost.

You talk about "debate" yet say things like "...didn't agree to the Jews muscling in..." That in itself proves you have no grasp of the background and are just one of the 'sloganeers'. Have you ever wondered why so many Palestinians are still living in shit-heap refugee camps after 65 years? Particularly when the same number of Jews fled or were expelled from their own homes around the Middle East and North Africa at the same time yet aren't living in tents. Or when 15m people were displaced in India, when that country was similarly partitioned just months earlier yet aren't living in squalor dreaming of a land they had to abandon.

And did you realise that most Arab countries in the area (including Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia) are just as artificial as israel being created out of the post-Ottoman territory and given to their rulers by the French and British to repay favours done by the various tribes or clans or to create a bulwark against other colonial or local powers?

Have you ever been so vocal about the oppression of the Tibetan people by China? Or the war being fought against the Muslim Uighur people in the far west of China? I guess not and would be interested in why that is.

Well I don't have any vested interest in the conflict as I'm neither Israeli nor Palestinian or Arab, and neither Jewish nor Muslim.

I just believe that it is in the long-term interests of all involved that the weak be protected from exploitation by the strong. It'll take some big men from the opposing camps and outside mediators to bring about peace. Something which, frankly, I don't see happening because both Israelis and Palestinians are led by small-minded men and the would-be outside mediators would have no interest in resolving the conflict unless it were for their own economic advantage.

And the sad thng is that you are 100% right on that point. Both sides have a vested interest in talking and acting tough for their domestic and international audiences. Yet the domestic audience, apart from a minority of fanatics on both sides, would happily settle for peaceful co-existence.

But the point is that one minority of fanatics have control of a very advanced military machine which they use to bully kill and slaughter.

And could you stop insinuating that if a poster infers that very fact that they are sloganistic.....it's a silencing tactic that's becoming boring.

Anyone who doesn't want peace for any country doesn't want what's best for that country and ideally peace in this conflict would be marvellous wouldn't it? But that just isn't going to happen any day soon when you have a very effective USA funded military machine bearing down on what is in all respects a captured population.

I've just watched a video of slaughtered Palestinian children, some actually cut in half. Actually quite surprised at the person that posted it whom it would appear is so aghast at the horror that he felt the need to. 77% of people dead are civilians 15 in one family alone.........its a fooking disgrace.
