Pellegrini - Job done ?

A couple of seasons of regression will be a lot more palatable if (when?) we know for sure that the first truly world class manager we have had since the takeover will be on his way.

In the meantime, performances way below our potential will continue to be the norm I suppose.

So we were "wank" in 2013/14 when we won our first ever league & cup double? The trip to Villa on Saturday will be a lively one! ;-)

we were lucky to win that title, liverpool caved in. the league cup was good to win but with this squad its hardly an achievement. if anone involved with the club think we are a better side now, more organised now, or indeed as tactically aware now they are seriously deluded. everyone on the way home yesterday said the same thing, pellers is a clown, i said i couldn't possibly comment.

i'll ring you mid week to arrange villa meet up Colin :)

His job is to win trophies. You can't win one every year - even the best managers have trophy less seasons. Let's judge him at the end of the season. It's relatively likely that we'll win a domestic double this year (despite our current form!). If we did you'd have to look back at 4 trophies in a 3 year spell as a very good return from a good manager. On the other hand, if we win nothing this year, 2 trophy less seasons in a row would be poor given our squad. Wait and see what he achives.

Relatively likely? how do you get that with our form away and against top teams?

I can't help but think he's feeling the pressure from the press concerning PG. Our inconsistent form, esp. away, is frustrating.

The way he has conducted himself in front of the press is very professional and he got the players working together again. We have won trophies under his leadership too however I must say in terms of setting up his team he is pretty poor. I would go as far as saying he is one of the poorest tacticians in our league.

I think the owners wanted a manager that the players would respond to positively which would lead to a more consistent level of performance, I am not sure they would be happy with the team not reaching its potential over a 3 season period.

In sport you have to take your chances when they come, ambling along presuming a messiah will come in and everything will be fine is a strange strategy really.
Spot on.

Why would we want to take a 3 year break from advancing ourselves as a club whilst we wait around for Pep?

Also Khaldoon looked like he wanted to murder someone during his end of season summary, perhaps he didn't get the memo telling us to coast along for 3 seasons until Pep was ready.

This isn't to say Pep wasn't a long term ambition, but 5 trophies expected during Manuel's term doesn't sound like us just wanting to wait around for Guardiola.
