PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

I want us to clean house ala the end of The Godfather.

I do wonder if City have been planning to go big when this is done. We played their game, tried to make friends and they've continually fucked us. First UEFA, who we beat but didn't bury and remained guilty in the eyes of most people. Now the PL where we've been found guilty already. If we win we have to fucking bury the PL and expose all of the clubs that tried to kick us out, reveal all the corruption behind the scenes and destroy them...but we won't...because we're smarter than they are. We wouldn't go after the PL when we're making so much money being part of it. Despite the fact we're making them a fortune, bringing players like Haaland into the league and raising interest as a result, they have decided they want to punish us. It's not in their interests to. This is all a result of the 'istree boys putting pressure on. I'm sure they'll want us to be found not-guilty to protect the PL's reputation, protect us as a money maker for them and say to the 'istree boys they did their best but we're simply not guilty.

One thing I’ve noticed in reading about half of this thread is that far too many people for my liking seem to assume we have probably done something wrong and try to parse out what that’ll mean…to the point of almost reveling in returning to our humble roots in the lower divisions where life was so much fun (for a few years!).

It’s a tad nauseating to see supposed City fans, most of whom have wallowed in the magnificent football and the silverware it has brought, now acting like it was all just a long con and that the time to pay the Piper has arrived!

Some appear seduced by social media and clickbait headlines. “Where there’s so much smoke, there’s got to be some fire, right?”

Well, no. No, there does NOT need to be any fire.

Sure, the PL have trotted out multiple instances of a few charges, but that doesn’t mean they are right or wrong, only that they warrant investigation, discussion, and disposition. City will have the chance to answer to these charges, many of which are technical infractions and may be subject to myriad interpretations, because they have yet to be dissected or even decided in a case before.

City’s owners are serious people who do serious work. One assumes they know the rules of the PL and UEFA. They fought UEFA on their own ever-changing rules, many of which were literally designed to entrap them, and were successful in appealing the initially flawed adjudication by the same body that brought the case!

We will face much the same process with the PL. Charges are being brought by non-arms length actors of related parties who have repeatedly called for City to be penalized and prosecuted, even though they clearly have never seen the evidence or know the details.

In their zeal for a positive result for them, they have chosen an adjudicator who is openly aligned with one of the named antagonists in trying to punish City. Indeed, a number of the people who are primary decision makers in this process are aligned against the sporting and business interests of our club.

While this has been alluded to when lazy accusations have arisen in the past, we are far beyond the point of accusation and into the realm of indictment and charges of malfeasance. That is a different animal from idle media chatter and will, in turn, elicit an animal of an entirely different stripe when it comes to the ferocity of City’s defence.

As the club has made clear, they knew this day was coming and they’re ready to face the charges with the collective weight of CFG’s not inconsiderable might. Indeed, one might be surprised at how far they’re willing to go to not only shut this backwards looking case down, but to reshape the future.

In accordance with the “fixture” only just being announced, it would be premature of anyone to suggest the bent ref will give them a few goals and us a few red cards, let alone call the result and award the PL the “trophy.”

Rather, we should give our lads the chance to put their good warm up to use on the field of play and watch the game play out.

Sure, the away fan allocation of 90% of the tickets will all be against our lads, but that’s no reason for our fans to give in, say we are going to lose, and just hope it’s not a heavy defeat, is it?!

No, now is the time to get behind the team, and the owners, KNOWING they need our support more than ever, and repay the favor of being given the best football, the most successful football, and the best run organization any City fan has ever seen.

Are we going to get some stick from the 90% of the crowd that is against us? Of course!! They all belong to other tribes! Has that EVER been a reason NOT to stand up and be counted? NO. NEVER!

Remember Gillingham? Behind.
Remember QPR? Behind.
Remember Brighton? Behind.
Remember Villa? Behind.

Remember who won THAT silverware?

We are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. I stand WITH my club, our ownership, our manager and our players.

The Future is Blue!

At least they've said "if" we are guilty.

The wider footballing audience already felt we were guilty before this, now we definitely are. They can't understand how a club that has thousands of empty seats each game, has never won the CL and was in the third tier 24 years ago can earn more revenue than Real Madrid or the rags. Because a few more people in the ground and prize money for the CL obviously is such a vast sum. And revenues over 12 months obviously are impacted by what our situation was 24 years ago.

It's another one where the damage is already done regardless of what happens. IF we do successfully fight off all of the allegations, it will be on a technicality again I'm sure.
Interestingly I've had a look at the comments on the Telegraph article and they are roughly 50/50. 5 Live debating City at 10.00.

I don't give a fuck what the media or other clubs say about us I'm well past that, if and hopefully when we're cleared again we'll just continue to win titles and piss everyone off and that's all that matters to me, they can call us cheats or say our titles don't count or whatever, it's not like they weren't doing that already for the past decade so they can get fucked.

So in effect they are saying multiple companies such as auditors are complicit in this scam?

This bit confuses me and maybe an accountant can clear this up. If they are inferring that we cooked the books yet all the auditing companies weren't aware then how on earth would the books match up? We tell them our income is X but our income is Y then how would that work?

So if we were posting results correctly and the auditors confirmed everything then surely the PL case is also insinuating all these companies were in on it aswell? They could turn round can hit the PL with defamation suits or whatever aswell?

Deep dive here if you can handle the truth. Or my guess on it. A lot of people including Fernandinho himself listened in!

It's a very good listen, and you know more about the law than I ever will, but I can't see how you're making the jump from breaking the Premier League's rules of financial disclosure and false accounting, deceiving the auditors etc.

We know the PL rules and requirements go far beyond anything the club has to file with HMRC. It is possible to be dishonest to the PL without being dishonest to the government/auditors.

The Mancini/Al-Jazira payments satisfy the accusation in Charge 1. Not disclosing it means the club was not providing accurate information with respect to related parties and operating costs in good faith.

The fans of every team, big or small, will now latch onto this story and have a laugh at every possible opportunity. Buckle up. It’s going to be a rough ride.

Has anybody commented on the significance of the timing of this from the PL and proposed White Paper from the government on Football Governance ? ( now pushed back 2 weeks as I understand it ) ?

Obviously 4 years in the making, but released unexpectedly - to the media before the accused party , nice touch from the impartial PL !

Sorry if it as , but the thread is moving fast .

It's taken over a decade for the PL to present their 'case' against us..

I hope for their sake that the spinless twats 'case' is as watertight as a nuclear sub because we've been waiting for this day to arrive..

All the media cowards that have now backed their house should be identified and fcuked off by the club.

I've given bingo and the pisscan some shit on here over the years but it appears the former has had enough media bullshit and the latter fcuked everyone off who wronged him, even the rag central, biased BBC.

Now's the time to clear the decks, get rid of the twats who have disrespected us for years and whilst we're at it, start to throw some serious shit back from where it came..

I'm sick and tired of being labelled cheats when all we have done is lift the PL to new heights and regenerate large chunks of East Manchester in the process.

I trust my club 100%, I wouldn't trust anything the PL have concocted against us.

Both the rags and dippers are for sale, apparently the dippers haven't had 1 offer.

The PL cash cows are at a crossroads and it looks like the PL and media think it's all City's fault..

Fkin good..!

Now let's put this to bed once and for all..!
Now that really is the spirit!

Unlikely I think. First, any outcome will be capable of being nuanced. Second, City fans and players will no doubt feel a sense of injustice above all. Third, most players are essentially pragmatic.
Fourth, most of the squad will have retired when this reaches its conclusion

Think you've answered your own question there :-)

The thing I find odd is this is a hell of a fight for the PL to pick because, hypothetically, even if they were to win, it could result in all sorts of ramifications they can't control. So I'm left with the thought that is it one of these...

1. Simply tactical relative to getting the idea of an independent regulator off the table and they have done this on the big assumption that after the furore dies down it'll drag on and at some point we'll take another relatively minor pinch but until then they can posture as necessary and point to their governance prowess.

2. A last throw of the dice to get rid of us by some vested interests who don't actually care if it backfires spectacularly because they have their escape routes planned and if they leave the game in a mess that's ok because they never really cared about it anyway.

3. They are people who have worked through all the scenarios and are confident they have the political backing and legs to ride out a geopolitical/diplomatic/economic shitshow.

4. Or as others have said they are simply overconfident/undercompetent.

Not sure which of these is most likely but the idea that our owners would just go 'fair cop' and slink off into the sunset seems so fanciful it must surely be one of those or a variation thereof?
My money would be on No.1 from a weak PL and No.2 from terrified red shirts.

Thankfully we don't have to prove we did nothing wrong, it's on the PL to prove that we did.

There doesn't seem to be any new evidence at this stage (partly because we aren't fully cooperating, but why would we potentially incriminate ourselves), so I don't think there is enough for an independent panel to agree we falsified our accounts. Big accusation on little evidence.

The charge(s) for not acting in good faith will most likely hold (like the CAS appeal) but I just don't see how they can conclude we are guilty of the others.
Those are apparently very big accusations (according to Stefan). They said that we falsified our accounts for 9 years, and also misled auditors for nine years. The accusation means that all our board directors had a part in falsifying the accounts (implication) and hence are dishonest. Its going to need tremendous proof to prove that claim.

Very little in the media which is bizarre.

I would hope that common sense prevails here, and none of these mentioned "journalists" turn up at the ground on Sunday,as there could be a few incidents that could take place,I'd suggest they are better hiding behind their keyboards in their kitchens at home.

I'm not condoning violence, but quite a few are putting themselves out there with their ideas on what should happen IF found guilty, which isn't going to go down very well at all.

It will be toxic Sunday around that press box,can see it now
I'd piss myself if one of them gets a punch in the nose.
