Player thread: Aleksandar Kolarov (2014/15)

Decent left back. Good in the air. Can deliver a cross. Free kick/penalty specialist. Not scared of a tackle. Would eat you for breakfast.

Said no one about Kolarov.

Manchester City full-back Aleksandar Kolarov admits ‘I’d like to return to Italy’, with Inter among those interested.

The 29-year-old spent three years in Serie A with Lazio, before joining the English side for around €20m in 2010.

Kolarov played under Roberto Mancini when the latter was City manager, and has been linked with a reunion with his old boss at Inter.

Speaking to Sky after Serbia’s defeat to Portugal last night, the defender admitted he’d like to return, and praised his former club Lazio.

“I’d like to return to Italy, but it’s difficult,” Kolarov said.

“I’m happy for [Sampdoria Coach and fellow Serbian Sinisa] Mihajlovic, he’s doing very well, as are Lazio.

“They’re having a great season and I hope they can end it in third or even second place.”

Agree with none of the above

Describes Leighton Baines, minus the last bit. Kolarov has been awful 4 of his 5 seasons here. He cost £20m, Baines cost £6m. Further evidence that the talent is there to be had within the league, and the notion that English players are infinitely more expensive/technically inferior to their foreign counterparts is simply misinformation.

If we can manage to get £8m for him it'd be good business.

I'm pretty sure he'll be one of the players we'll be looking to move on this summer (I can see all our Balkan contingent leaving). Clichy is a better player and classed as homegrown, so he'll be safe.

Kolarov's stock is still reasonably high in Italy, so hopefully we can find a buyer there. Knowing Italian sides, however, they'll probably offer a year loan with an option to buy (and us picking up the majority of his wages).

Agree, Ric. He also said after the game last night that he would be open to returning to Serie A.

Wouldn't stand in his way if he wanted to return to Italy.
A slow winger really rather than a left back...

I'll drive him to Italy myself, not sure he's capable of expended the effort needed to get himself there, lazy twat.

Wonder how much Baines would have cost if we tried to get him from Everton. Closer to 25-30m£ id guess.

Also, other than the rags I don't think any of the top clubs expressed interest
