Player thread: James Milner (2014/15)

All confirmed now. Still don't understand why he would go there??

He's a good pro, last big contract, wants to play and has maybe been told he will have much stiffer competition in that midfield berth next season? Good luck Jimmy, except when you play against us obviously

I didn't believe it when I heard it then and I don't now. City don't release stuff like that, and Brennan has said before he gets nothing from City. It might have come from Milner to deflect stories of him being greedy, but the most likely source is Liverpool. They are small time enough to put out shite like that. It's in their interests to lie about it, especially if we take Sterling away from them. It keeps up the myth that players go to them for the honour of playing. In the words of a notable poster "small time cunts".

Thing is, anyone who thinks it isn't about money is kidding themselves. Milner's taking somewhere around 10 million as a sign on fee plus 130k a week basic. We would've had to pay him 180k a week to match that which is - well he isn't worth that to us.

It's interesting the way that this is being spun in the media. I wonder would the same good will extend to ANY English player leaving A N Other PL club to move to City on a free?

Thanks for everything Jimmy.
Right, lets lock this thread.
He was good while he was here but he is history now.
I don't think we will miss him as everyone is fearing

Shame he seemingly lead the club on all year given that they were still confident he'd stay according to the media.

We move on.

All the best to him, personally don't understand the move, it's a step down currently and I think his qualities lend him more to a wide position.

I don't take this all being about money, any figures are plucked out of thin air and he was by all accounts offered several lucrative contracts here.

He"ll become world class now and Hodgson will play him in every England game probably in midfield! Liverpool have got a really top professional in the pitch he has 2 faults as a player and it's he gives the ball away a lot plus the final ball is not that great.. good luck to him
Pretty big flaws to have if he's planning on being a central midfielder!
He's been a great signing for us, even with the high fee we laid out. Ideally he'd have stuck around and played his part as and when was needed but I understand him wanting more than that at this stage of his career.
He'll do well at Liverpool - play plenty of games and because of his style and never say die attitude he'll have won over their fanbase pretty quickly.
I expect to see conformation of Sterling coming the other way in the next week or so. Wouldn't have too many complaints with that.

Think Milner has been very good for us. A good professional and typical squadplayer that most topteams need. Other than being versatile he never was or will be something special. However he showed enough in a Cityshirt to be a very usefull aquisition for Liverpool. I understand his descision and hopefully it's because he knows his minutes on the pitch will be very limited with us due to incoming players from outside and the academy.

I wish him well and will applaude him. But I certainly don't hope he will be succesfull with Liverpool.

Bye jimmy

Was always only a squad player, played too much out of generosity by us last season and has thrown it back in our faces.

He got what he wanted, but he wasn't good enough to warrant it.

Thanks for the contribution Milner, but we're moving on to bigger and better things, and turning our squad into a real competitive force.

Yep and is why he played on the wing for us..

Will always clap him on and off the pitch but if the club genuinely thought he was going to stay he's an arsehole, plain and simple.

I also think that this pretty much confirms Sterling is on the way and we have done a deal with Liverpool to let him come to us, no doubt for an undisclosed fee to keep there rabid fans content.
