Player Thread: Patrick Roberts

Yes and no, it's between 15 & 21 (not 16) which means he's eligible for the A list. He's not been here the required 2 years to make the B list.

43.04 A "club-trained player" is a player who, between the age of 15 (or the start of the season during which he turns 15) and 21 (or the end of the season during which he turns 21), and irrespective of his nationality and age, has been registered with his current club for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons (i.e. a period starting with the first official match of the relevant national championship and ending with the last official match of that relevant national championship) or of 36 months.

43.05 An "association-trained player" is a player who, between the age of 15 (or the start of the season during which the player turns 15) and 21 (or the end of the season during which the player turns 21), and irrespective of his nationality and age, has been registered with a club or with other clubs affiliated to the same association as that of his current

43.11 A player may be registered on List B if he is born on or after 1 January 1994 and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday by the time he is registered with UEFA. Players aged 16 may be registered on List B if they have been registered with the participating club for the previous two years without interruption.

That was what I ment, I know for the b list he would have to be here for 2 years but at 19 should be able to go into our squad's a list

Any update on him? Seems to have gone extremely quiet. Looked great in the UYL. A loan to a Championship club would surely make sense.

Roberts is suffering from the same thing every 18-20 year old suffers with at a top club; there's no clear pathway to the first team. This is the prime example of why we need B teams.

Roberts is stuck in limbo at the moment. He's viewed by the club as too good for the EDS, but not good enough for the first team. He needs to go out on loan in January, probably to a Championship club.

Do any of our loans actually work out?

Always seem like they hardly get any minutes.

Him and Barker need football; it's essential that they get good loans this month otherwise they've lost a season at a crucial point of their development.

Only a small percentage of loans work out, they're such a risk. Unfortunately loans are the only chance these players get a chance of first team football. This is why B teams are essential, too many young players at top clubs are not playing first team football at a key point in their development.

You only have to look at Dele Alli to see the benefits of playing regular first team football between 17 and 19.

A very good point and its certainly done him no harm,as he looks a very good player in a Spurs team that could become one of the best they have had for years.I was surprised to learn that he now had more than 100 games under his belt, through his longish loan spell at the MK`s.
I understand that George Evans has yet to be offered a new contract and Walsall want to take him for a longer loan spell, but until his contract is resolved they can`t do much, which is such a shame.
