Player Thread: Patrick Roberts

better off to Celtic, rather than Championship side. he will get a chance to taste Europe competition. 18 month loan is fair enough to me. the important thing is, he plays regularly with decent team like Celtic.

Championship is a much better league than Celtic. Playing a handful of European games isn't worth playing in a league that bar Celtic is league 1 standard.

With the pep news today, it's interesting we've let him go for 18 months. He's one of the best we've got in our academy, they've obviously deemed him not yet ready for the first team even with a manager that will use youth. An indicator perhaps that we shouldn't expect an influx of youngsters into the first team next season?

We have the option to recall for a "compensation fee" in case he starts rooting up trees at Celtic.

He did a warm up session before the game in the stadium. Must just be giving him time to settle in.

Looks like Deila is coming under a lot of pressure at the moment after poor European performances, and now this big cup defeat and Aberdeen right on their heels in the league.

If he gets sacked, do we have a way of getting Roberts back?

1 goal and 3 assists in his debut....but I digress he wasn't ready to get his chance

Doing that in a celtic reserve match is a bit different in a key top of the table game, cup final or CL game where ,whatever we think, if he made a mistake on the night the fall out might damage him before he has properly started. We are handling him well I l think. Do people really believe that MP or any other City manager makes these decisions in isolation Txixi and others will be driving the decisions as DOF the manager will coach who is here . Pep will also have discussions with Txixi and co about it all too in the build up to him taking over I would imagine.

Common sense. If the kid continues to impress when hes played a dozen first team games then the loan will have served its purpose and hell be an option for our squad come the summer.Hes just turned 19 and is very raw, patience is the key word here.

He won't though, he's on an 18 month loan with more than likely no recall clause. With De Bruyne and Navas now injured its not looking like such a great deal.

Sorry I was forgetting the 18months.......irrespective,a loan was the best scenario for him,he'll grow into a much more consistent and mature player. Its not so negative when you consider Barker offers a similar threat, and we have kept him on the books.
