Thought he was quite quiet. Didn't do much wrong, just wasn't involved enough.Him and Fernandinho stifle each other. You can't have them both in the same team

When push comes to shove he simply isn't good enough whearas Fernandinho most certainly is and will start most if not every game and you are spot on about them stifling each other so I wouldn't expect much game time for him especially when Delph returns.

as soon as I saw his name on team sheet I knew we would get beat even said it to my pal, useless of the highest order,my 14 yr old son could tackle better than him

Never heard such shite, he was one of the best pkayers today, vastly improved and runs forever. Could have done with 5 or 6 more players with his passion tbh

Every player struggled to be honest especially in the second half.

We are well off the standard needed and expected to justify our tag as one step below the top sides in Europe.

We don't have the ticker to overcome situations that go against us as they will throughout each season.

I think one of the biggest problems is that Fernandinho never actually steps up his game when playing alongside Fernando, he doesn't offer any more attacking than he does alongside Yaya, which pretty much defeats the point of playing Fernando alongside him. I'm always a bit surprised by this, as Fernandinho always looks to have more to his game than he's allowed to show when alongside Yaya as he has to play with the handbrake on, but then when he's given the chance to be more free he has never taken it. If you are going to play the two of them together then Fernandinho really needs to do a lot more attacking, while Fernando does his usual role, but for whatever reason that's never really happened.

The exact same could be levelled at Yaya when he starts in attacking midfield, he should produce more attacking play when he's moved forwards and had his defensive responsibilities taken off him, but he very rarely does.

If playing Fernando alongside Fernandinho and Yaya doesn't give you more attack from those two, then there is really very little point in doing it as you are just losing a number 10 and gaining a Fernando, which isn't much of a trade. You sort of gain a bit more defence as you have two midfielders who defend in the middle, but by having Yaya further forwards you lose any ability to press up the pitch as he simply doesn't do it. In a tough european game against a team who wants to pass it through the middle then I could see the point in the two Ferns together, but not with Yaya in front of them (like Roma last year when it was pretty much perfect). Other than that then I can only see the point in Fernando being backup to Fernandinho, to play alongside a more creative CM.

Fernando was excellent yesterday. Did what he could. We got mauled on the counter down our left flank and it killed us tactically., ruining kdb's second half and pulling out middle all over the place to try compensate. That had nothing to do with Fernando.

If blame lies anywhere, it's kolarov and sterling. But let's not flap yet,and let's not blame a guy who had a solid game.

I don't blame Fernando for any serious part of our loss but I wouldn't call him excellent just he was better than the majority of the other players individually

He did ok for someone who has been out for so long. But he was nowhere near hood enough over 90 mins. There were signs he could be, but the jury is still out imo.

The marking for the Alderweirald header was total shit, but why the fuck was Fernando given that job in the first place ?
