Another player gradually proving that you shouldn't judge a new player, especially one from abroad, after his first full season in the PL. Some can do it straight away, some take a few months, most need a full season. Fernando got some fair critics last year, but stating he needed to be sold asap was way beyond that. Happy for the lad. More happy for us!

Delighted with his performance yesterday and how he has started this season. I was very critical of him last season and rightly so, he never proved to be the signing we all thought he would be and given that he is the type of player that loves a tackle, i think we all just thought he would slot into the premier league immediately. He is proving his worth this season and i pray to god it continues. We went through the same thing with De Jong when he first joined, looked way off the pace for half a season when we signed him in january transfer window and the season after, he looked a completely different animal. The one thing i like very much what Fernando is now starting to add to his game is the way he is becoming a lot more commanding within his role, i kind of got the feeling last season that he was playing like a bit of a pussycat, this season though he seems to be playing like a rottweiler, on the front foot, throwing his weight about and making himself available to receive the ball. He is playing with far more confidence and as someone has already stated in this thread, he isn't just doing a hatchet job defensively, he is also using the ball intelligently and looking a lot more astute in possession of the ball than he did last season.

I really hope he keeps up the good work because we might have a cracking player on our hands.

To be fair on him, he did say he was carrying a groin strain most of last season, so perhaps any under performance concerns by the fans were a tad hasty. Great to see him in full flow now though.

Delighted with and for Fernando this season! Seems to be fit and gained a yard or two of pace as well! Keep it up please Nando!

Always love this type of player and all great teams need one...Not had quality since De Jong but now Fernando is slowly proving his worth...Javi certainly improved in his second season...Tixi seems to have done a good job picking targets so far

Anybody heard anything about fernandos international chances? There Wass something about him not being given a chance by Brazil after punching a ref in the youth sides then he tried for Portugal? He could be a solid rest of the season away from a call up

I actually also think he is better on the ball than we give him credit for, just a lack of confidence. He seems to be slowly but surely playing the ball around more than he did.

Maybe with his groin injury, he was always trying to get on the ball so not to cause further problems.
Now he can play a lot more freely.
