As it says in the article
Nothing is official until Manchester City and/or New York City FC make the announcement official

The manager clearly wants Frank to stay till the end of the season and says so every week...

Frank Lampard: Manchester City hope to finalise future this week

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini hopes to resolve the future of Frank Lampard "within the next few days".
The former Chelsea midfielder, 36, is on loan from sister-club New York City for the rest of the calendar year.
But City wish to keep him for longer and are hopeful of negotiating a deal to last until the end of the campaign.
"I repeat, Frank is very important for our team so I hope he will stay here," said Pellegrini.

Lampard has been a key member of City's squad this season with six goals in 15 appearances and with Yaya Toure at the Africa Cup of Nations in January, the champions could be short in the midfield positions.
However, New York start pre-season training in January ahead of the new Major League Soccer season in March.

Asked if he risked upsetting the Americans, Pellegrini said: "I don't think so. That is why we have long conversations with all of them.
"That is just one club so I think that what is better for the club is better for all the clubs.
"I hope Frank's situation will be resolved in the next days. I said in the beginning it will be during December we are going to have the last decision."

Crazy idea here

With the current injuries to the strikers, why not let Lampard return to NYC on the basis the David Villa comes to us on a 3 month loan.

Both clubs win. NYC get a big name for the launch of the season, we get a striker in for free who, I guess at 33, wouldn't be unhappy at being on the bench when Aqueroet al are fit.

I think you're missing the point. NYCFC fans aren't upset because they want Frank Lampard, they're upset because they want the marquee players (DPs) they were promised. If you give them back Lampard but take away Villa, you'll just redirect their anger at Villa and the situation will continue anew.

And if Villa gets injured, all that has been acheived is pissing off those who opted for supporting NYCFC from the start.

Re: Frank Lampard

If NYCFC can secure another marquee replacement and both his partner and the player are happy to stay in England until the end of the Premier League's season then there isn't a problem to be honest.
