Post match thread : Borussia Monchengladbach away CL

Delighted with the win but papering over the cracks! No disrespect to borrussia but they should have been beaten professionally without fuss tonight. Defending was awful and dinho left to do the work of two again!
Give them a break they have hardly played together and one is new to the league FFS you are not delighted with the win really you and a few others from the match thread

The main problem at the back is the fact that Demichelis is a great defender but age has totally caught up with him.

Imagine if we had Caballero in goals....... the spurs result was a fluke

fuck me were getting slagged on here but \all the injuries it was all about the result.i thought once the unfit ya ya went off it took us ten mins to suss it but we were supurb after that.our defence is decimated so we just have to get through this moment

Coming of age victory, as in the end it was achieved without Toure, Silva, Nasri, or Kompany. That was a big win and should make the others much more confident in themselves.

Delighted with the win, that was what tonight was about but the same old problems continue to rear their head:

- left side of the defence is still poor. Kolarov continues to be a defensive liability
- we continue to persevere with yaya in a midfield 2. Just can't do it against the big teams - when will we learn

The positives were the performance of Sagna and the outstanding Joe Hart.

Will Pellers ever learn from his mistakes?

I thought that moment in the 87th minute when Aguero received the ball at midfield and drew the yellow card on Dominguez was absolutely huge. In that moment, he looked like Sergio Aguero. He was absolutely sprinting to turn him and had him beat were it not for the foul. It's felt like Sergio was operating at about 70% pace for much of this season.. just hasn't really looked right or up for it. But in that moment, my fears were allayed. Not at all surprised he earned a penalty two minutes later and then almost scored a second a few minutes after that.

I think that moment was a big turning point for his season. It seemed like it just clicked for him.

First and foremost what a great game of football, entertaining stuff and it is absolutely crucial that we got the three points. Monchengladbach had a lot of novelty, pace, directness, energy, the atmosphere was great, it was a special occasion for them. Therefore this match was never going to be easy. We struggled to deal with their pace especially from Raphael but Joe Hart once again showed why he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world- he showed leadership and took the responsibility to carry the team when things were difficult.

It was a matter of time before they scored but we managed to claw that goal back after some laughable, dodgy officiating, thankfully Otamendi put the rebound in the net. After which we dominated, with Navas offering what he offers best, balanced the team and allowed us to suffocate and dominate the opponent and once again, Aguero stepped up and got the goal.

Hopefully this will fire him up because we really need him. We also need Kompany in particular and Mangala back inorder to regain the structure and potency we showed in the first few games of the season. Great result, important result and the players will be ready for Sevilla, hopefully with a better injury record when that time comes.
