Post Match Thread: City vs Boro

If we had got the win yesterday which our non-defensive play deserved, the Abu Dhabi trip would not have appeared. Boro withstood a good battering - possession, shots, etc, and had they gone in three down at HT they couldn't have complained, but football is a beast that can bite the kindest of arses.

NoMark Odd'un in the Dirty Tosser calls the AD excursion a jaunt. Funny that other clubs can spread the gospel and the word jaunt doesn't appear. Players may have been tired but we had enough of the ball to have dispatched Boro. Their goalie had a fine game, our final finishing lacked a crispness which has been missing for a few games, and I've just seen the handball again, and if you want a classic playing the ball with yer hand inside the area then this was it. Funny how that Whistling Wanker FatPhil can see a figment of his imagination when Micah 'handballed' at Anfield but the barrel of dripping can''t see what we saw from CBL3, five times further away.

Balanced view: we haven't had an effective twin CB combo since VK and Joleoninho three seasons ago. We haven't had someone to bottle up the area in front of the back four since GazBaz and Nige. We clearly have not improved with the personnel; we haven't come close.

Hey ho, roll on Friday.

A few things that became apparent yesterday

Our defenders cannot play out of position ie Kompany on the right and Boyata on the pitch

Milner 's best position certainly not in the middle: he in fact is only any good when he has 9 better players than him on the pitch

Aguero ans Dzeko are nowhere near being fit

Fernando needs another defensive mid to plat with him

Silva cannot win games on his own we are missing Nasri

You can get jet lag flying from the middle east

Pellegrini has just blown his best chance of Silverware

Agree with most of this (especially this being our best chance for winning something this season), but the trip I think not relevant as we have been playing poorly for at least a month now. Defeat at Chelsea will do 3 things:

1) Mean Chelsea should go on to win the Title
2) Leave us with Utd, Arsenal et al breathing down our necks and put us in danger of at least not finishing 2nd (especially with still to come tough away games at Liverpool, Utd, Spurs etc, and our home form now being poor)
3) Put pressure on the team and Manager that is greater than it has been over the past 3-4 years where generally we have comeback from poor results and not lost 3 in a row
4) Make the Barcelona games much more important (if only for holding off circling vultures in the press\media a bit longer, who will have a field day if City fail to win anything)

On a separate note - will City ever stop losing in domestic Cups to lower league teams ?
i.e. in the past Millwall (1937), Shrewsbury (1979), Halifax (1980), Oldham (2005), Brighton (LC - 2008), Notts Forest (2009), Wigan (2013 and 2014) and now Middlesbrough to name but a few. Millions on players who still have tendancy to fail to beat Championship teams, surely not good enough.

Thought I'd reserve comments till I'd seen the highlights, had to sit in the North Stand yesterday as I took my 6 yr old to her 2nd game, sh enjoyed it, though was baffled why we didn't win, :)

1st half we looked ok, goalie had some good saves, but we didn't get behind them enough. 2nd half, woeful & desperate - good name for a duet that!

Negatives, part from result - caballero doesn't inspire any confidence, Kolarov, ok first half, looked pissed off second, Boyata, didn't do too much wrong but just plainly not good enough , Vinnie, trying to be Beckenbauer needs to go back to basics , Navas, Christ where do you start.... If we want someone fast on the wing then sign Usain Bolt, then again he's a rag prick, no end product time after time from Jesus , Jovetic, jury was out for me, but after he wasted 2 great opportunities vs Arse & that moment when he drifted a lazy punt past Aguero in the 2nd half makes me doubt him more.

Positives, well I had a punt on a Boro win as I rememer how shit we were vs Sheff Wed , covered my ticket cost - other than that naff all.

We'll win at Chelsea though , can't get rid of typical City,

If our display is similar against the chavs, we will get torn apart. We could be staring down the barrel of a real beating which could damage us beyond repair.
The chavs will be looking to smash the next team in front of them, unfortunately, that's us!
We got away with it for the last couple of games.
I don't see us getting away with it at Chelsea.
The players need to produce the goods on the pitch instead of talking a good game, actually produce one!

Some of you even made MEN :-) .

No apoloies needed, done it myself several times. Chavs will have to field a strong team for that game as a final beckons. This could play in our favour
