Post Match Thread: Kiev 1 - 3 City

Smashing performance from every City player on that pitch. Special mention for the scapegoats of late. Ottamendi was outstanding and looks so much more assured next to Vince, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for his headed clearance for there goal. Sterling was brilliant and I just wish he would do it more, he gave there fullback a headache all night with his pace and delivered some great crosses. Fernando was an unsung hero, breaking up play at ease and filling in when players got caught out of position.
Kompany's presence just changes our whole set up, he is the glue for the rest of the back 4, we look organised and hard to break down.
Silva' radar is not yet up to scratch but he was a menace all night and looked threatening in that number 10 role.
That ref deserves s special mention he let the game flow and didn't give unnecessary bookings when other refs would have booked a few players tonight. He was right with the penalty shouts as well, none of them were clear cut.

That was the Sterling we all know tonight.

He's got the ability to terrorise any full back but quite often he lacks the self belief to carry this side.

I look at the likes of Hazard, Bale and Netmar etc and they all have an arrogance in their ability. They believe that they will beat any defender and will run at a defender when ever given the chance.

At times I think Sterling lacks this and he could be up there with the Neymar and Hazard's if he started to develop a more ruthless streak.

The fact he is only 21, is going to be managed by Pep next season, and I already think he can reach the elite level is a testament to how highly I rate him.

I don't think we utilise him properly, he gets the ball too deep and has too much to do, we never play really good balls in behind for him, mostly it's lumped over the top and he chases it. And it's always in the wide channels so when he chases it down and gets the ball he's never really through on goal.

So I'd like to see him making runs from outside to in, rather than just taking the ball straight down the wing.

Also he seems to be getting coached to be cautious, not taking players on in the box.

I've watched Chelsea v PSG and Arsenal v Barcelona and those were proper games.

You can only beat what's put in front of you. And it's a very good night but the standard of the performance has to be measured against the opponent. That is all I am saying.

Beeb very complimentary, we overwhelmed Kiev. Only chance mentioned for Kiev outside their goal was Hart's save, mentioned the chances we missed, praised Vinny.

Well well, that first half was one of the best I've ever seen. Maybe they are rubbish but we were near perfect, most impressive was the pressing.
Lovely Agüero goal to kick us off, never in doubt when it came to him. Then he controls the ball like only the best can, beautiful back-heel to Sterling who with a little deflection finds Silva for a great goal.
They got a lucky one which didn't really seem in the script, guess it wouldn't be City if there weren't some nerves. But thought we ended very well and that was classic Yaya, sublime control and finds the corner with apparent ease.
Hart crucial save, Otamendi very good, Fernando looked like the octopus, Fernandinho wonderful again playing further forward, Kompany was colossal but will say Raheem motm as I thought that was one of his best performances.
Tonight and Sevilla away we're getting nearer to realising our potential, I'm enjoying it immensely.

We played a team that has lost one european home tie in donkeys years , and we played them off the park , if we win on sunday and the dippers play shite , no doubt you will post the similar negative views .Good football teams do not allow the oppostion to play , and we were good tonight. Suggest you put the spade down now.
Or he could give it to someone else and ask them to hit him with it!

Great win. Totally deserved it and more. This is what you get if you can play nearly the best 11. Well done Pellegrini for setting us up perfectly. Although he won't get the credits as it's in most systems he is a clueless old man. I'm just happy to see the old City again. Gives a lot of confidence for Sunday.

Today's set up showed that Fernando has a place at city and quietly went about his business and shielded the defense.
Totally agree.
Look at that...Aguero Silva and Toure get the goals...just like the good old days
...and Hart with a great save.
Yaya rolled back the years.
....still couldn't run though :) I thought he had one of his best games for us tonight, and he still wasn't our best player.
Because we were playing a poor team. Yaya rolled back the years in the 90th minute. On the ball he is class.
Such a sad comment, on a very good night. I'm not surprised though.
I think Newcastle would have beaten Kiev.
Even sadder comment.
Fernandinho has to be the best £30m we've ever spent.
Hard to argue.
First time an English side has won at Kiev in CL!
No the rags have won there.
DON'T CHANGE THE TEAM ON SUNDAY... Simple
^This.

We were brilliant tonight, best we've played all season, from back to front, and more importantly from front to back, because we defended from the front, something that regularly annoys the f*ck out of me.

In order....

Fernandhino - 10
Sterling - 9
Fernando - 9
Sagna - 9
Yaya - 8
Silva - 8
Otamendi - 8
Aguero - 8
Clichy - 7
Kompany - 7
Hart - 7

Same team Sunday for me (injuries permitting), and anywhere near the same performance, we should be celebrating.

Fantastic first half, sloppy in the second half but held out and rounded off a nice night. Disappointed with the lack of subs given what's waiting for us on Sunday.

Thought the ref was very "lenient" in a good way to keep the game flowing. There were a few challenges flying in that would have got a yellow card from some officials and yet weren't even whistled up.

He also seemed to be smiling and talking to the players a lot. Wish there were more like him.

Reading this thread has made me realise: if we'd have won every title going since 01/09/08, some of our supporters would be moaning that we hadn't lobbied hard enough to create more competitions.

Ultimately, that must be a desperate and pitiful world to inhabit.
Tonight was the perfect remedy after a rough couple of months. It's a result to be savoured, to be enjoyed. Having read through the thread up until this point it's hard to fathom what it will take to cheer some fans up. If you can't feel the joy after a win like tonight, a win that puts us in the box seat for a quarter final place, then you're not doing it right.

Yeah. We give them some shit when they are. But thought he had a great game. Don't think he could've called either penalty shout,
as he couldn't be 100%. Take note Mr Clattenburg.
