Pozo

Lopes and Pozo were 2 of our best prospects, they may not have been good enough but we never even gave them a fair chance to see what they were capable of. If we are going to overpay for average English players every summer instead of giving these guys a run in the first team squad then what is the point of the CFA? Before anyone mentions Ihenacho, Bony is injured, Aguero is not at his best, we are 2-0 up at home against Watford and he gets 2 minutes at the end. Not saying Lopes was the next Messi or anything but if arguably our best prospect can't make it then I can't see who will.

Pozo got to lead the line last season, and didn't impress.

As for average English prospects, I think Sterling will take a modicum of offence to that.

if the CFA helps mold kids into people with good values whilst developing them into career footballers it has done its job. 99% of the kids won't make it at a club like City, that doesn't mean they're a failure, because they are good enough to play professional in a million different leagues. You can count on one hand the number of players Chelsea/Real/Barca/Bayern/Juve etc etc have that have been with the first team straight from the academy within the last 3-5 years, we all want local lads to be captaining the side I'm a knockout Champions League game but it's just not realistic at this stage. Bayern maybe but mostly due to horrific injury record. Arsenal could be lauded for that but they don't compete for leagues or CL anymore.

All the best. Buy back there if we want it, however, I don't think we will. Hope he has a good career, no shame in not making it through to our first team nowadays.

I wasn't referring to someone we've already signed but rather someone we might sign instead of giving these guys a chance. I was speaking hypothetically, Sterling has been a brilliant signing.

Pozo just isn't good enough. There are about 15 better prospects in his age group at the moment alone in our CFA. He's fallen a lot.

This needs to be copied and pasted every time a youth player is released/loan/sold.

It seems pretty deluded to me. Who is expecting a local lad to be captaining us in the Champs League? We didn't even give an Academy player a run out in the Carling Cup shambles last season!

We are not even close to having a home grown fringe player - and the Academy hasnt been doing its main job (The world didn't start with the CFA). That's clear for all to see.

Pozo played in the 3rd round tie against Sheffield Wednesday.

Maybe if we are given more kinder draws this cup run we will see academy players, but we aren't like the Liverpool's and the Arsenal's and others who don't take the cup seriously until they progress to a a certain point. We want to go out and win by putting out our strongest squads and maybe including a few academy players on the bench. Problem is, we get a tie that ends up harder than it should be and we don't risk the upset. These kids need to be patient and really impress and take their chances when they're practicing with the first team.

Again the number of players from academy to first team at top clubs is small. Since the Messi generation who's really starting that's come up from the academy? Bayern let Can go to Liverpool? Inter had to sell Coutinho during their dark period. Juve's sending a bunch of kids out on loan are co-owning kids until they're developed to their liking. Chelsea has 30 kids out on loan, some on them 4th and will more than likely sold to aid FFP. United all the talk of McNair and Blackett and now Blackett is at Celtic with Boyata and McNair has a CM from Ajax in his place.

We can only hope we get a generation like Barca's but it's still too early under the new CFA to expect it now. Right now the Iheanacho's the Robert's the Ünal's mixed in with talented local kids like Barker and Cameron Humphreys represent a positive next step for the future.

Iheanacho? ...Denayer could make it too

If players don't stand out in the EDS then they're not good enough for the first team. Simple.

Players like Iheanacho, Barker and Maffeo have starred for the lower teams consistently, whereas Pozo just disappeared in games or didn't perform.

Ultimately it was Iheanacho who has leapfrogged him and made him surplus to requirements.

Exactly this
You would expect him to be the star of the EDS team but when he plays for them there are younger players with more determination, guile and skill who are leading the way.

Thanks for pointing out that Pozo played against Wednesday. I was referring to the Newcastle game and I should have been more specific. Here is the 18 for the Newcastle game and I can't recall Boyata getting on.

Man City: Caballero, Sagna, Demichelis, Mangala, Kolarov, Milner, Fernandinho, Toure, Silva, Jovetic, Dzeko. Subs: Hart, Zabaleta, Fernando, Nasri, Jesus Navas, Aguero, Boyata

Good point about us putting out strong line ups in the Cups. The year before at Leicester Vinny was able to coach Boyata through the game that we won convincingly. My preference would be to give one or two of the more talented youngsters a game in these matches as other clubs do.

I don't blame Pellers for just thinking for today because his job is on the line and he sees eg Otamendi as a better bet than Denayer, despite both being full internationals.

I don't expect a stream of Academy players to hold down regular places in the first team - in the near future. We are light years away from Barca and Bayern in this regard. However, I am sceptical that we will be able to attract top youngsters as our reputation for not giving homegrown players a chance gets worse.

Gone - sold to Almeira, shame but by all accounts wasnt progressing as expected, maybe that spell up front last season hampered him more than helped

One of those was Lopes until last week! Yes Pozo's form dipped for a few months after he got picked as a centre forward for the first team. He might not have been good anyway as a playmaker as people have said. It's years of not being able to develop even a fringe first team player that the Club needs to address!!

Lopes hasn't played for the EDS since Spring 2014
