it will make it harder though. Unfortunately. Not only that, but the thought of those Rgas gloating once again is a painful thought. Nothing on the wires or Red Cafe yet.

How will it? They cannot go out and spend £300m on players in one go.

Personally i would love for all 20 teams to be taken over by rich sheiks.

Only ourselves and the future, debt-free Arsenal will be the only ones able to compete with them long-term.

This strengthens their position (if it happens) but doesn't weaken ours. Relying on others faltering is a loser mentality anyway. We have the best owners in world sports, but if we want to become a world class team/club we have to earn it on the pitch - that means matching the best and the best-equipped. Not simply hoping they stay shackled/held back by off-field factors.

It'll just mean United will return to purchasing 2 or 3 top quality players per season, it's not like us where we've pretty much bought a squad. Don't really see how this would affect things too much.

It'll affect things massively in the sense that we won't have all the fucking debt that we do at the moment.

The Qataris, though, seem to be wanting a more hands-on approach than the Glazers. For a minority of United fans, it's a case of 'better the devil you know'.

a purchase of this magnitude wouldn't have been kept quiet all the way up into the due diligence stage.
This it would have made headlines all over the place before due diligence

They will still have to work within FFPR which will limit them to one big purchase per season at their current profit levels.

City are developing far more than a glamour football purchase.

If this is true expect it to go the same way as the World Cup they won. Things will give very quickly.

I guess this is what I was clumsily alluding to. Also, the more of the tradional elite european clubs that are in danger of breaching the regs, the more unstable they may become. Or is that just wishful thinking?

Panic !

FFS grow some.

lol, want the exaggerate people's reactions of the year award?

All I'm saying is if United get taken over, clear their debt they free up their profit margin which is much higher than our own, and will keep them above us and ahead of us in the major foreign markets which will limit our growth potential. This would mean we don't grow as much as we need to to compete properly and we would then struggle with FFPR and not be able to spend big unless Abu Dhabi wants to start having a footballing control battle with Qatar(as it's clear Qatar has some money orientated influence in the corridors of the governing bodies, they are playing big and dirty to get what they want).

Also United will be able to make big signings again which will massively increase their shirt sales and merchandise revenue.

If they don't get taken over, we are absolutely fine, and as appears by jrb, he should be given a kicking for starting this off ;).

OK! It's a load of bolloxs. Lock the thread and drink a stiff one. Phew! Good night chaps.
Reduce DEFCON level from 5 to 4 chaps.

Sorry to be pedantic, but from 5 to 4 is an increase :)

Defcon 1 is the highest level :p
