Only one game this season but has shown more quality in his play in this game than all of last season
Keep it up looked a totally different player

One game and pep has figured what he is about, you don't play sterling waiting for the full back to overlap him

You ask him to run at his man and get him to commit

The style yesterday is perfect for sterling , he will be presented with five or six opportunities in a one on one with the full back

One game ...

BINGO.

Too many times last season he was put into positions where his skills weren't utilised properly and too many times his inadequacies came to the surface by having to control, hold the ball up, pass in to tight spaces etc. Give him the ball in one on one situations and let him run at full backs. It was also good to see how he stuck to the touchline, taking a defender or two with him and creating big holes between full back and centre back. This will be key for us improving our chances created and scoring rate as other players benefit from Sterling being marked out of the game.

The wide players are asked to stay wide and wait for the ball, the full back has to get tight to stop the cross, this stretches the back four and creates gaps

Pellegrini was asking the wide players to move inside to help make the play , which is ok with nasri and silva , but useless with navas and sterling

Can see why we have invested heavily in sane , him and sterling will have a field day in this system

Yep. Sterling will be given the best chance possible now to reignite his career and prove people wrong. MP or Hodgson have done him no favours last year but now the system is perfect for him, it's up to him.
