I like you Wilf but we wouldn't have ended up with Raheem then.

Delighted with this signing, hope I'm not counting my chickens

Hopefully you're not and he proves to be worth far in excess both of my valuation and the money we have actually paid for him.

He is an "A" list signing without doubt.

Isn't that everyone's method of buying a player? Unless, like Delph, the asking price is ridiculously low then everyone will try to get their man for as little as possible. Don't ever recall anyone saying "Sorry pal, that's way too cheap"

It's just like buying a house. How much, offer less, they don't budge then reality hits that you both gone through too much to back down and the buyer pays close to the asking

They'll do anything to put us down

Talkshite were giving him a good press earlier (listening in the car) - both presenters saying there's no loyalty in football any more, and that Sterling is just looking after himself. They'll probably get a verbal warning for it.
Oliver Holt MOS has it just about right and we get a very exciting and talented player and
Pool get slightly more money than they should!

Andy Dunn's piece in The Mirror today was another lazy character assassination, talking about 'owing' Liverpool and him not having a 'medal to his name'

A couple of things - don't remember any such stories when they were buying half of S'hampton's team or when they brought Sterling from QPR. And didn't it occur to Dunn that the reason Sterling has no medals was because the manager got carried away with himself(along with Gerard) in the 2014 run-in and the manager also blew he FA Cup semi V Villa?

He's had enough of being a nearly man

I can't get across what a god signing I think he will be, 20, quick, experienced in this league, knows where the net is but needs to improve that - he's going to be our Ronaldo, our Hazard - the difference

As for those 'stats' V our current players, they prove nothing. Typical Sky, creating news out of stats
He's one bitter guy! No doubt he thought that when Liverpool bought the leagues best players in 70s and 80s.

I think quite a lot of us have got caught up in the price and have forgotten just how good a signing this is.

Sterling is the best young English player by a mile and, not only that, addresses a big weakness in our team in terms of pace on the left wing.

Huge signing.

For his age he is the best in the world. Him Silva and Kun :-) happy days

Used to do it for a living mate. Retired very early (49), no need to work again.

So yes, you're right.
And if you are truthful you went the Txiki way otherwise you did not negotiate you paid the asking price and could have done it on line anyway!
But at the end of the day we have bought an outstanding young player......so who cares how much!

After reading this thread its great to check out the YNFA football commentaries on YouTube... Some featuring 'Lionel Sterling' candletastick.

Gained one with Firmino.

Plus have £50 million pounds in the bank after getting rid of a unhappy player.

No, you have £40m in the bank (assuming we even pay £50m up front which we may not) because £10m goes to QPR. And your top target Benteke has a £32.5m release clause that Villa don't seem inclined to budge from. And why should they after no doubt seeing Liverpool's stubbornness in selling?
