5, got an exciting player in Grealish but probably spent too much. Kept important players in Laporte, Bernardo, Jesus and Sterling.

Not signing a LB or Striker could hurt.

The biggest plus is Messi, Ronaldo, Kane etc all moving or staying gives us a free run at Haaland, though I’m not confident we’ll get it over the line.

I think you are on to something
Arsenal fans must be pissing themselves laughing at our inept shower of a board, as must the rags, who think they’ve signed the same Ronaldo as the one they sold and who’s ‘only’ taking £500000 a week off them.

To be run by people like that is now a never to be realised dream for our unambitious club and I’m sick of it..

1) Grealish looks like a good acquisition
2) we kept Berne and Laporte and they look up for a good season
3) we stuck to our knitting in search for a striker. I now see that as a positive
4) looks like Tommy got a good loan move.
5) Delap and Palmer will train with the big boys
6) some nice long contract renewals for Dias, Stones and Eddie

i would have liked to see Ronaldo play for a season or so but he would have come with huge risk of wages and squad disruption so I really do trust the club to have made the right judgement on this and the striker situation.

I went for an 8. I like Grealish, and I'm a big Zinchenko fan so not fussed about left back. Laporte and Bernardo staying is a big bonus. I want to see a DM & CF brought in but accept that our targets for those positions may well not have been available in this window and Fernandinho staying for another year takes the pressure off the DM position. Haaland in January followed by Rice next summer and my vote changes to a 10 ;)

8.

We kept Bernie, Laporte and Jesus, and signed a world class attacking mid in Grealish. We've also managed to offer new and improved contracts on key players. We have at least 2 world class players in every position, including at LB where some of our fans seem to think we are lacking cover. I'm sure Zinny and Eric might have something to say about that.

Losing that French idiot has probably done us a favour in forcing Pep to blood one of the youngsters if/when the opportunity arises. Joshua Wilson-Esbrand from the EDS will hopefully get a look in the early rounds of the League Cup. It'll be a step up for him but he's a decent prospect at LB.

Really glad we didn't sign Kane, Messi or Ronaldo as it would have upset the harmony in the dressing room and turned our wage structure on its head.

Why does he need to score 25 goals?

There were 6 games where we didn't score last season. It cost us a derby, the CL and the FA Cup. What if Grealish's extra creativity gets us over the line and wins us a quadruple, is that a luxury?

We drew 5 league games last season, what if his extra directness turns those into wins and we pick up 10 points, is that still a luxury? Or is it improving the side as much if not more than a 3rd choice defensive mid or left back.

Improving your strengths can be even better than trying to cover your weaknesses. We only conceded 32 league goals last season and 7 of those were before we had any fit defenders and 7 were after the title was officially won so I don't see the defence as being a weakness.
Yes its a luxury as creating chances clearly wasn't our problem. All our problems came from not converting chances and getting done on the break...transitions namely.

Without addressing these clear deficiencies first and foremost anything else is a luxury signing and secondary.

Now we can create another 20 chances a year to miss.

Grealish is a top player that will get better and will have good resale value for several years, he's a very good signing.

Slightly disappointed we didn't sign a top striker but Levy demanding a reputed 150-160M meant he was a signing for right now and the short term future, and his resale value would have been a fraction of his transfer fee due to being 28 now. I'm happy enough he's staying at Spurs and we can hopefully sign Haaland. If not another striker that is a few years from peaking, preferably tall with good aerial ability .

As others have mentioned, keeping Bernado and Laporte means we have slightly strengthened our squad instead of weakening it by selling 2 important players.

6/10.

Says who, you?

Name me all the chances we missed in the CL final or the FA Cup semi...there were fuck all because we didn't create any.

Pep even said before the match he picked Gundogan as a 6 in the CL final because we needed help to create chances against the Chelsea defence. That need to create more to break them down lead to us sacrificing a defensive midfielder and cost us the game.

So why don't we need more chance creation?
